About Rhythm & Percussion: Tabla and Mridangam

Our percussion training is not just about speed, it is about the discipline of the instrument. For tabla, we start with simple bol patterns before moving to complex kaidas, while our mridangam students learn the rhythmic pulse of Carnatic music through structured Tala exercises.

At World Music Conservatory, we believe that percussion is the heartbeat of Indian classical music. Our classes focus on building a strong foundation, ensuring that every student understands both the theory and the physical technique required for their chosen instrument.

Tabla Training

Our Hindustani tabla curriculum takes you from the basics of hand positioning and simple bol patterns to complex compositions like Peshkar and Gat Kaida. We emphasize Teentaal and other rhythmic cycles that form the core of the Hindustani tradition. Students learn in small groups, which allows for personalized feedback on their posture and stroke clarity.

Mridangam Training

For those interested in Carnatic music, our mridangam classes explore the intricate layers of Adi Taala and other complex rhythmic cycles. We focus on the art of accompaniment, teaching students how to provide precise support for vocalists and instrumentalists. This includes understanding the nuances of Mohra and Korvai, which are essential for any aspiring percussionist.

Learning With Us

We offer classes at both our Basavanagudi and Malleshwaram locations. Our approach is grounded in regular practice, with clear syllabus progression from foundational exercises to advanced repertoire. We also provide ample opportunities for stage performance, including our annual Kalaa Sangama event, where students can apply their skills in a live concert setting. Whether you are a beginner looking to understand the basics or an advanced student preparing for exams, our gurus are here to guide your journey.
