We build discipline through drills. This clip shows our young students practicing a sequence of rolls and 'sapate' (burpees) to build explosive power and endurance.
About Taknik: Mat Sparring & Technique
Training on the mat is faster and more technical than wrestling in the mud. I focus on precise footwork, defensive holds, and learning how to take down an opponent without injury. It is not just about raw strength here; it is about control, body mechanics, and knowing exactly where to place your weight during a spar.
When you step onto the mat, the game changes. Unlike the traditional lal mati (red soil) where you often rely on raw power, mat wrestling demands agility, speed, and technical precision.
At my akhada in Sanpada, we bridge the gap between tradition and modern competitive wrestling. My training sessions are built around consistent sparring. You will practice specific drills for takedowns, learn to escape tight holds, and master the counters used in modern tournaments.
Safety is non-negotiable. Because I am an NIS-certified coach, I place a huge emphasis on correct falling techniques. Many of my students come from different athletic backgrounds, and I teach them to use their own body weight to dominate the bout. We do not just practice; we dissect every move. If a throw fails, we stop, reset, and look at the foot placement.
Whether you are a beginner looking to understand the basics of your stance or a competitive wrestler training for your next meet, these sessions are designed to build your taknik (technique) from the ground up. You will learn to think three steps ahead of your opponent, making your movements efficient and effective.
