Wrestling Training and Kusti Coaching in Navi Mumbai
Explore our training methodology, from traditional lal mati drills to modern tournament preparation at Jai Hanuman Kusti Akhada.
A glimpse into our mat training where I teach Pailwans the techniques needed for modern competitions. This is a powerful throw, a result of precise timing and practice.
The journey of a Pailwan begins in the 'lal mati' or red soil. Here, I am guiding our youngest wrestlers, teaching them the foundational grips and movements of traditional Kusti.
Strength is fundamental in wrestling. Rope climbing is a classic exercise we use at the Akhada to build incredible upper body and grip strength.
I am incredibly proud of my students' achievements. Here I am with our young champions after they won four gold medals and one silver at the Mumbai divisional school wrestling competition.
Discipline starts with the warm up. Every training session begins with high-energy ground workouts to build stamina and prepare the body for the practice ahead.
A strong body needs a calm mind. After every intense 'talim' session, we practice meditation to cool down, focus our thoughts, and build mental discipline.
This is the spirit of a Pailwan. Posing with the traditional 'gada' or mace represents the strength and heritage we honor at Jai Hanuman Kusti Akhada.
Technique is everything. This video shows another example of the dynamic throws and counters we practice daily on the mat to prepare for competitions.
About Featured
I personally oversee every session, ensuring beginners learn safe falling techniques before moving to complex throws. We balance the raw power of 'lal mati' training with the tactical precision required for professional mat tournaments, so you develop both stamina and technical skill.
At Jai Hanuman Kusti Akhada, I approach wrestling as a lifestyle. Whether you are a parent looking to build physical discipline in your child or a youth athlete training for competition, my focus is on sustainable growth.
The Training Philosophy
We don't just teach moves; we build the body to execute them. My training programs are divided into three core pillars:
- Traditional Foundation: We use the 'lal mati' (red soil) pit to build raw strength, grip, and resilience. This is where you connect with the history of the sport.
- Modern Technique: On professional mats, we teach stance, takedowns, and defensive holds using current tournament standards. This is essential for students who want to compete in school or divisional games.
- Conditioning & Mental Grit: Wrestling is demanding. We include rope climbing, tire flips, and bodyweight exercises like sapate (burpees) to ensure you are physically ready for the intensity of the sport. Every session ends with a cool-down, fostering a calm, focused mindset.

I am Sandip Dalavi, and I believe wrestling is about building character, not just collecting medals. My Akhada is more than a gym; it is a home where I teach students of all ages how to be disciplined, strong, and prepared for life.
