Strength and Conditioning for Pailwans

At our Sanpada akhada, we build strength the old-school way. From tire flips to rassi chadhai, our conditioning drills are designed to create the explosive power you need for both the pit and the mat.

Strength training is a vital part of our routine. Here, a wrestler focuses on building arm and shoulder strength with weight training, essential for powerful grips and holds.

A wrestler practices throwing techniques with a grappling dummy. This allows for repeated practice of powerful moves like suplexes and throws without risking injury to a partner.

Teamwork and strength combined. Our wrestlers perform a creative and challenging four-person push-up drill, building core strength and camaraderie after a tough practice.

Outdoor partner-resisted exercises are a great way to build functional strength. These drills simulate the forces experienced during a real wrestling match.

The tire flip is a classic exercise for developing full-body explosive power. This raw strength training is a staple for building the physical dominance required in Kusti.

Two wrestling buddies training together as the sun sets. The dedication to Kusti extends beyond the akhada, with partners pushing each other to get stronger every day.

About Building Pailwans: Strength & Conditioning

Don't expect fancy gym machines here. Our conditioning is all about raw, functional movement. We use desi equipment like Gada, tractor tires, and 20ft ropes to build the grip and stamina that actually matter when you are in the pit. It is hard work, but this is the foundation that keeps our pailwans injury-free and explosive.

Our strength training isn't about lifting heavy just for show; it’s about preparing your body for the unique, grueling demands of Kusti. Whether you are training for local dangals in Raigad or national-level freestyle competitions, the focus remains on functional endurance and mental grit.

The Hybrid Regimen

We believe in combining the best of both worlds. We use traditional Lal Mati (red soil) training for core stability, paired with standard blue mats for high-speed technical drills.

  • Desi Equipment: We utilize Gada (mace) for rotational strength and 20ft jute ropes for climbing, which is unbeatable for grip and upper body conditioning.
  • Calisthenics: Sapaates (Hindu pushups) and Baithaks (squats) form the backbone of our routine. We do these in high volume, often in group drills, which builds the mental toughness needed to push through fatigue.
  • Explosive Power: Tractor tire flipping and grappling dummy drills simulate the resistance of a real opponent, teaching you how to move weight efficiently while staying in a low wrestling stance.

Why Consistency Matters

Strength doesn't come overnight. That’s why we run double sessions—6:00 AM and 6:30 PM. This routine helps our athletes maintain peak fitness levels year-round. You aren't just training to be a wrestler; you’re training to be capable, disciplined, and strong in every aspect of your life.
