About Modern Tales & Physical Theatre
In our production of Gretel, you will not just see the story, you will feel it. The actors use their bodies to navigate a forest of paper, while live folk and rock music drive the narrative. It is an immersive experience where the rules of the stage shift, perfect for anyone who loves theatre that keeps you guessing.
At Jagriti, we believe theatre should be an active, living experience. Our Modern Tales cluster is where we invite artists to strip away the crutches of traditional set design and dialogue, focusing instead on movement, expression, and sound. Whether it is the mime-heavy narrative of It Is You, which explores human connection beyond spoken words, or the cyclical storytelling of Sa-Ma-Ya, which weaves classical Indian art forms into a contemporary movement piece, we curate these shows for audiences ready to engage their imagination.
The performance space itself is designed to amplify this intimacy. Our 200-seat main auditorium is fully air-conditioned with acoustic treatment, ensuring that when an actor whispers or a musician plucks a string, the moment lands exactly as intended. We frequently collaborate with creators like Okapi and Science Gallery Bengaluru to bring scientific, ecological, and psychological themes to the stage, moving far beyond the standard stage play format.
If you are coming to watch a show, prepare for something raw. These productions are often high-intensity works ranging from 70 to 90 minutes. Because of the intimate nature of the performances and the specific blocking of physical actors, we enforce a strict no-late-entry policy. We want you to be part of the story from the first second, so arrive early, settle in, and experience Bengaluru’s experimental theatre scene at its most authentic.
