Innovative Campus Features: Functional School Design
Architecture should not just house students, but inspire them. At Konark Academy and beyond, I create specific, functional installations—from custom transportation to versatile assembly halls—that solve campus challenges while sparking student curiosity.
The 'Konark Express' in action. The train features multiple colorful carriages, providing a fun and secure way for young students to travel from the main gate to their classrooms, away from any vehicle traffic.
A detailed view of the custom-designed locomotive for the school train. Branded with the Konark Academy logo, this unique feature has become a beloved and iconic part of the campus experience.
The versatile play zone and assembly hall at Konark Academy. Housed under a massive Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) structure, this space is equipped with a stage and can be used for sports, performances, and large school gatherings.
Another view of the multi-purpose hall, showing its immense scale and open-sided design. This structure provides shelter from the elements while maintaining a connection to the outdoors, making it suitable for year-round activities.
An outdoor sculpture at Konark Academy serves as a central landmark. This piece, depicting students reading on a globe, is situated within a roundabout and symbolizes the institution's commitment to global learning.
A closer view of the bronze sculpture, showcasing the detailed craftsmanship. Such artistic installations enrich the campus environment and serve as daily inspiration for the student community.
The sculpture seen from a different angle, with the modern school building in the background. We carefully site these features to create memorable focal points within the campus landscape.
About this collection
The custom toy train at Konark Academy is a functional logistics solution. By creating a dedicated track from the main gate to the primary section, we removed pedestrian and vehicle conflict, keeping young students safe while making their daily arrival an exciting, anticipated routine.
Educational architecture requires balancing safety, engagement, and long-term utility. When we approach institutional projects, we move beyond aesthetic considerations to solve operational hurdles. The Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) structure housing the play zone at Konark Academy serves as a primary example. This choice provides a massive, unobstructed span that is cost-effective to erect and climate-resilient, allowing the hall to function as a sports arena, assembly space, and performance area throughout the year without maintenance issues.
We also prioritize site-specific landmarks to build institutional identity. The bronze reading sculpture isn't just decoration; it is a wayfinding landmark that establishes the culture of the school. By situating these pieces at focal points, we encourage students to engage with the campus as a place of discovery rather than a mere building. Our approach to school architecture and campus master planning focuses on maximizing flow. We analyze sun-paths and traffic patterns to ensure that your school design reduces congestion, maximizes natural ventilation, and provides teachers and students with a stimulating environment. Whether you are building a new facility in the NCR region or planning a renovation, our focus remains on creating spaces that stand the test of time while remaining adaptable to future educational needs.
I M Design & Development
I am Amrita Maitra, and I view every school project as an opportunity to reshape how students experience their day. My team and I focus on moving away from standardized layouts to create purposeful spaces—like assembly halls that double as sports arenas or art that sparks conversation.
