Terraces & Balconies: Create Your Private Outdoor Escape
Your terrace or balcony is more than just square footage. We help you reimagine these spaces as extensions of your living room, complete with greenery, comfortable seating, and protection from the elements.
This covered patio on a terrace is designed as an extension of the living room. With terracotta tiles, comfortable seating, and surrounding plants, it's a perfect spot for relaxing or entertaining.
Another angle of the terrace lounge, showing how we use a mix of built-in planters and wooden decking to define the space and add warmth, creating a true outdoor living room.
A view from the balcony of our Cube House project. We designed this space to maximize the panoramic views of the adjacent green belt, creating a serene seating area that feels far removed from the city bustle.
For this terrace, we used traditional design elements like clay tiles and carved wooden pillars to create a shaded seating area. It's a peaceful, semi-open space that offers a great view and protection from the elements.

About this collection
When we approach a terrace or balcony design, the first step is always checking the existing slab and drainage. Before you finalize a design, consider whether you want a permanent pergola or a modular setup, as this dictates the weight load and waterproofing requirements. We focus on these technical foundations alongside the aesthetics—using materials like WPC decking or MS fabrication to ensure your outdoor space is durable, low-maintenance, and ready to use regardless of the Bangalore weather.
Designing for Bangalore's Climate
Designing an outdoor space in Bangalore requires a balance between enjoying the pleasant breeze and managing the occasional heavy rain. We treat terraces and balconies as active living zones rather than decorative add-ons.
Our Design Approach:
- Structural Integrity: For rooftop pergolas, we use MS (Mild Steel) box-section frameworks. These are anti-rust treated and powder-coated to ensure they don't corrode over time. We often combine this with toughened glass or WPC rafters to create semi-open spaces that feel like a true extension of your home.
- Practical Landscaping: Instead of just placing pots on the floor, we design custom brick masonry planter boxes along parapet walls. This includes multi-layer waterproofing, drain cell mats, and geotextile fabric to ensure zero leakage into the floors below.
- Privacy Solutions: In dense urban layouts, privacy is often a concern. We integrate laser-cut jaali screens or vertical trellis systems that allow airflow while blocking direct sightlines from neighboring buildings.
- Flooring & Flow: We move away from standard tiles, opting instead for natural stone pavers or interlocking wooden deck tiles. This creates a tactile, outdoor feel that transitions smoothly from your indoor flooring.
Whether you need a compact balcony styling with vertical gardens or a full-scale terrace pavilion with built-in seating, our goal is to build something that functions well and survives the seasons.
ID+AS Architects
At ID+AS Architects, we believe architecture is a dialogue between the built space and the people living in it. We don't just fill your balcony with plants; we build permanent, weather-proof structures that let you actually use these areas for morning coffee or evening wind-downs.
