My design philosophy is grounded in context, celebrating what is local and natural. I prioritize regional materials and select native plants that thrive in their environment, creating simple, beautiful trails that let the land speak for itself.

A natural trail on a sloped site in Pawna, defined by a simple line of lemongrass. The path respects the land's contours and is carved between existing trees, preserving the site's original character.

This red earth pathway winds through a grove of existing trees. Instead of extensive landscaping, I used native butterfly bushes and grasses to gently define the trail, creating a design that feels completely blended with nature.

The simple beauty of local materials. In this Alibaug resort, a curved wall built from laterite stone provides a warm, textured backdrop for variegated Alpinia plants, showcasing a palette of red and green.

For this project in Jodhpur, I used local stone for the paving, laid out in an irregular pattern with grass growing in between. A flowering Plumeria tree stands against a pink-hued wall, a color characteristic of the region.

A gravel and earth pathway runs alongside a veranda supported by stone-clad pillars in Jodhpur. The planting is composed of hardy, drought-tolerant species and climbers that will gradually cover the pillars.

Another view of the Jodhpur project, showing the permeable paving and the boundary wall made of vertical stone slabs. The planting is still young here, but is designed to mature into a garden that is resilient to the local climate.

About Rooted in the Land: Native Materials & Natural Trails

When you choose local stone like Jodhpur sandstone or laterite, you aren't just selecting a material; you're building with the character of your region. I often guide clients toward permeable paving patterns where nature can grow in the gaps, turning a hard surface into a living part of your garden that matures beautifully with the seasons.
