- Zoning: Creating distinct zones for lounging and dining using geometry to maximize perceived space.
- Privacy Screening: Strategic placement of tall foliage or vertical green walls to block neighboring views.
Civil & Technical Detailing
- Waterproofing Coordination: Technical drawings to ensure planter drainage does not compromise the slab (zero-leakage assurance).
- Flooring & Fabrication: Detailed plans for raised planter beds, decking (wood/WPC), and artificial turf integration.
- Lighting & Automation: Mood lighting plans for evening ambience and irrigation automation planning.
Softscape Curation
- Specimen Selection: Curation of instant impact mature plants suitable for containers rather than small saplings.
- Vertical Greenery: Design of creepers on facades or trellis systems to create green canopies in tight footprints.
Bungalow & Villa Landscape Architecture
Masterplanning & Flow
- Visual Axes: Designing floor levels so internal rooms frame specific views of nature.
- Entrance Statements: Designing tropical welcome foyers using grand potted plants, arches, or stone pathways.
- Courtyards: Micro-climate creation for internal courtyards using water bodies or traditional swings.
Hardscape & Materiality
- Bespoke Paving: Detailed design of walkways using local materials like Jodhpur or Shabad stone in diamond patterns.
- Surface Treatments: Specification of handcrafted textures like Lipan style natural surface walkways.
- Boundary Design: Aesthetic boundary walls or green fences using stone slabs and creeping plants.
Layered Planting Strategy
- Ecosystem Approach: Creating depth using a 3-tier mix of ground covers, shrubs, and canopy trees.
- Native Species: Selection of plants specifically suited to the local biome (drought-tolerant vs humidity-loving).
- Seasonal Planning: Curating plants to ensure year-round interest and specific monsoon flowering cycles.
Estate Masterplanning & Rewilding
Topography & Zoning
- Drainage Analysis: Study of natural slopes to manage rainwater harvesting and prevent soil erosion.
- Zone Planning: Dividing vast lands into functional areas including arrival courts, manicured lawns, and wild zones.
- Tree Preservation: Identifying existing mature trees and weaving the design around them.
Rewilding Strategy
- Forest Creation: Dense planting of native forest species to create a self-sustaining ecosystem.
- Texture Management: Use of mixed grasses and butterfly bushes to reduce maintenance compared to manicured lawns.
- Orchards: Planning of fruit orchards (Mango, Coconut, Chiku) integrated into the leisure landscape.
Rustic Hardscaping
- Natural Trails: Designing meandering pathways made of compacted Red Earth or rough-cut stone.
- Boulderscaping: Strategic placement of natural boulders for focal points or retaining walls without concrete.
- Low-Pollution Lighting: Subtle lighting design to illuminate trails without overpowering the night sky.
About Residential Landscape Design
My Approach
I’m all about making your home and garden feel like one natural space. For me, it’s not just about looks - it’s about how you actually use the outdoors every day. Watching a garden grow and shift with the seasons is something I love. I always start by walking around the place, checking out the local scene, and figuring out what belongs.
Design Style
- I blur the lines between inside and outside - every room should have a view, a green touch, or a door to nature.
- Context is key. I use native planting schemes, so your garden has real roots and the plants actually thrive. If your land has Jodhpur stone or laterite, I’ll use it rather than bringing something fancy from far away.
- Each project is about atmosphere - whether it’s the soft evening light, the buzz after monsoons, or a riot of colour from flowers.
- Sometimes, less is more. In places that are already beautiful, like forest edges or hills, I keep it simple: a small trail, a bench, minimal planting to let the land shine.
Residential Spaces
- For bungalows and villas, I create outdoor living spaces: courtyards, lounges, and private green corners that make the house feel big but cozy.
- Farmhouses and holiday homes - I go for immersive, sustainable garden design. Big lawns, forest trails, flower beds that change with the seasons, and always respect for existing trees.
- Urban terrace garden? Trust me, I know how to make small spaces pop with vertical greenery, container plants, and shade.
Working Together
The best ideas come from working together. I listen to your story and work closely with your architect so the final landscape feels personal. My team and I put our hearts into every project. Sometimes you get mud on your shoes, but that’s part of the fun.

My Story
Started Hemali Landscape Studio after years sketching how buildings and nature could blend. CEPT days, then Studio Mumbai and Tom Stuart-Smith, taught me that inside and outside can just melt together. Nothing beats seeing a campus years later, plants taking over, concrete softened. Awards are nice, but honestly, I’m just grateful for every person who’s helped shape this journey.
My Work
Landscape architecture for homes, campuses, gardens - We design for bungalows, farmhouses, tropical gardens, retail and public spaces.
Blending indoor and outdoor spaces - Our designs fuse architecture and landscape so outdoor spaces feel inviting and natural.
Native plant landscaping and local materials - We use native plants and materials like Jodhpur stone, working with local farmers for sustainable outdoor spaces.
Collaborative process - Every project is a team effort with clients, architects, and my crew—even remote, we make it work.
Monsoon garden transformation - Watching gardens grow and change with seasons, especially that monsoon magic, is the best part.
