Structural Fabrication
- Custom Metal Framework: Design and installation of mild steel (MS) or galvanized frames, pergolas, and tensile wire systems to support vertical plant growth.
- Integrated Flooring: Permeable paving solutions using metal gratings with grass inserts or custom-cut natural stone (Kota/Granite).
- Space Saving Furniture: Built-in seating seamlessly integrated into planters or retaining walls.
Vertical Softscape
- High Density Greening: Shade-tolerant climbers and creepers trained over architectural frames to create immediate green canopies.
- Mature Specimens: Usage of plants 3ft+ in height for instant impact rather than small saplings.
- Tropical Palette: Curation of broad-leaved tropical plants like Ferns and Monsteras suited for humid, shaded pockets.
Technical Systems
- Hidden Irrigation: Drip and misting lines discreetly routed through metal structures.
- Architectural Lighting: IP65/67 rated outdoor fixtures including uplighters and strip lights for shadow play.
- Water Management: Sub-surface drainage mats (20-30mm) to prevent water logging on concrete bases.
Civic Plazas & Heavy-Duty Hardscaping
Public Hardscaping
- Stone Paving: Supply and laying of 3-4 inch thick natural stone slabs (Sadarahalli Granite, Basalt, or Sandstone) with anti-skid flamed finishes.
- Pattern Design: Execution of geometric laying patterns to direct pedestrian flow.
- Monolithic Furniture: Custom cast-in-situ concrete benches or solid block stone seating designed for high durability.
Urban Planting
- Tree Transplantation: Installation of semi-mature native trees (min. girth 6-8 inches) for immediate shade.
- Hardy Ground Covers: Drought-resistant shrubbery planted in designated containment pits.
- Root Protection: Installation of barrier sheets to protect paving and utilities from root damage.
Site Engineering
- Drainage: Gradient planning with slit or saucer drains to manage heavy monsoon runoff.
- Safety Lighting: Heavy-duty, vandal-resistant bollard and pole lighting fixtures.
Eco-Campus & Biodiversity Landscapes
Ecological Planning
- Native Palette: Curation of 100% indigenous species suited to the local biome to minimize water dependency.
- Soil Restoration: Large-scale soil conditioning using organic amendments to restore fertility.
- Seasonal Design: Planting strategy that evolves visually between monsoon blooms and dry seasons.
Permeable Infrastructure
- Soft Pathways: Walking trails constructed from compacted gravel, decomposed granite, or brick-on-edge for groundwater recharge.
- Water Harvesting: Integration of bio-swales, rain gardens, and retention ponds to catch surface runoff.
Contextual Elements
- Local Materiality: Construction of low-height retaining walls using locally sourced stones like Laterite.
- Informal Spaces: Creation of outdoor amphitheatres and gathering circles utilizing natural terrain slopes.
About Public & Urban Landscape Design
Why I Design: Connecting People and Place
I care about how city spaces can feel alive, not just look pretty. Every project I take up is about making public spots where the land, people, and buildings actually talk to each other. Watching a place get greener each year and seeing people use it - that's the real reward.
How I Work: Making it Real
- I blend landscape and architecture so both become one whole experience, not just separate things stuck together.
- Local materials and techniques matter to me. If I’m working in Jodhpur, I use Jodhpur stone. In Alibaug, it's got to feel local too.
- Native plant urban landscaping is central. I use grasses, canopy trees, creepers, and vertical gardens to make even small city spaces burst with life.
- I design for people first - whether someone wants to chill alone or the whole community’s out for an event, the space has to work for them.
Projects That Breathe
- Public plaza design is my jam. Like BKC Plaza in Mumbai - benches, sculptures, big trees, and places to actually sit and hang out.
- In tight city spots, I’ve built green pockets with steel mesh floors and climbing plants, like in Juhu.
- On bigger campuses, I’ve worked with farmers and let the ecosystem grow wild, giving shade and real green lungs to the city.
Teamwork Makes It Happen
None of this works without collaboration. I rely on architects, clients, and my team to pull off spaces that keep growing and don’t feel forced. Every project is about mixing everyone's ideas till it feels just right.

My Story
Started Hemali Landscape Studio after years sketching how buildings and nature could blend. CEPT days, then Studio Mumbai and Tom Stuart-Smith, taught me that inside and outside can just melt together. Nothing beats seeing a campus years later, plants taking over, concrete softened. Awards are nice, but honestly, I’m just grateful for every person who’s helped shape this journey.
My Work
Landscape architecture for homes, campuses, gardens - We design for bungalows, farmhouses, tropical gardens, retail and public spaces.
Blending indoor and outdoor spaces - Our designs fuse architecture and landscape so outdoor spaces feel inviting and natural.
Native plant landscaping and local materials - We use native plants and materials like Jodhpur stone, working with local farmers for sustainable outdoor spaces.
Collaborative process - Every project is a team effort with clients, architects, and my crew—even remote, we make it work.
Monsoon garden transformation - Watching gardens grow and change with seasons, especially that monsoon magic, is the best part.
