Eco Strategy
"Grow over time" approach where the landscape evolves for 5 to 10 years to become self sustaining. Strategies for passive cooling through tree placement.
Native Planting
Strict use of indigenous species that require minimal water. Uses younger saplings and seed mixes instead of mature trees to allow roots to adapt naturally.
Permeable Hardscape
Use of locally sourced rough stones (Basalt, Laterite) and gravel aggregates to allow rainwater percolation. Informal meandering stone pathways.
Earth & Water
Grading of land to create earth berms and swales for natural rainwater harvesting. Simple gravity fed irrigation setups.
About Commercial & Institutional Landscape Design
I’m always chasing that sweet spot where nature and built spaces just click. With every project, I want people to feel the outdoors, not just see it through a window. Watching our landscapes get lusher and more alive every year is honestly the best part of what I do.
My Approach: More Than Just Decoration
- Every site has its own vibe. I spend time understanding how your space works, who uses it, and what the place really needs.
- I’m big on native plant commercial design. Local stones like Jodhpur or laterite and region-specific greenery keep things authentic and low maintenance.
- I love blurring the line between inside and out. If a landscape can wrap around and soften a building, we’re on the right track.
- Sustainable campus landscaping means thinking long-term. I plan for growth, letting plants mature and spaces shift over time.
Project Snapshots
- For a Surat factory, we built green walls and soft grassy borders to make even the harshest brick and concrete feel welcoming.
- At a Pune girls’ academy, we teamed up with farmers to turn the grounds into a wild, leafy haven—proof that institutional outdoor learning spaces can thrive with the right plants.
- In Mumbai, I squeezed a tropical forest into a tiny urban plot, using creepers and canopy cover to create an unexpected city escape.
Collaboration Is Everything
Working closely with architects, clients, and my own crew is where the real magic happens. Every project is a mashup of ideas, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My Story
Started Hemali Landscape Studio after years sketching how buildings and nature could blend. CEPT days, then Studio Mumbai and Tom Stuart-Smith, taught me that inside and outside can just melt together. Nothing beats seeing a campus years later, plants taking over, concrete softened. Awards are nice, but honestly, I’m just grateful for every person who’s helped shape this journey.
My Work
Landscape architecture for homes, campuses, gardens - We design for bungalows, farmhouses, tropical gardens, retail and public spaces.
Blending indoor and outdoor spaces - Our designs fuse architecture and landscape so outdoor spaces feel inviting and natural.
Native plant landscaping and local materials - We use native plants and materials like Jodhpur stone, working with local farmers for sustainable outdoor spaces.
Collaborative process - Every project is a team effort with clients, architects, and my crew—even remote, we make it work.
Monsoon garden transformation - Watching gardens grow and change with seasons, especially that monsoon magic, is the best part.
