Montessori Education Principles for Your Child
At Hastam, we believe children learn best by following their own curiosity. Explore the philosophy behind our hands-on approach to home-based learning.
This belief is at the very core of my work at Hastam. The early years from birth to six are a time of incredible growth and absorption. My at-home program is designed to honor this critical period by providing a rich, nurturing, and stimulating environment right in your own home.
This simple truth from Dr. Maria Montessori guides everything I create. The mind remembers what the hands have touched, manipulated, and explored. That is why every material in my program is designed to be held, worked with, and experienced, not just observed.
I was humbled to share the story of Hastam and my mission to bring authentic Montessori education into homes with Bangalore Insider. It is a joy to have my passion for child-led learning recognized, and it strengthens my commitment to supporting families on their homeschooling journey.
About Our Guiding Philosophy
Most of us grew up with workbooks and drills, but here, we trade those for tactile experiences. Instead of memorizing concepts, we design kits where children use wooden bead bars to understand math or trace sandpaper letters to learn language. This approach lets them engage with their environment at their own pace, helping them build a genuine, lasting relationship with learning.
The First Six Years
Dr. Maria Montessori identified the first six years of life as a period of profound growth, where a child's mind is like a sponge. At Hastam, we see this stage as an opportunity to build a foundation of confidence rather than just academic milestones. We believe the most effective learning happens when a child interacts with their surroundings, touching and moving materials to understand abstract ideas.
Why the Hand Matters
Our name, Hastam, comes from the Sanskrit word for hand. We chose this because we believe the mind remembers what the hands have done. When a child manipulates a bead bar to solve a math problem or traces a letter in the sand, they are physically engaging with the concept. This reduces the pressure of rote learning and replaces it with the joy of discovery.
Bringing Montessori Home
We know that setting up a Montessori environment at home can feel overwhelming. That is why we provide more than just materials. Our monthly kits are curated to match your child's specific developmental stage, ranging from math manipulatives to fine motor tools. Each box comes with a guide, and we offer regular teacher check-ins to support you through the process.
Collaborative Growth
We are here to facilitate, not to enforce a strict schedule. Whether you are looking for a quarterly curriculum roadmap or a starter kit, we work with you to understand your child's sensitive periods—those moments when they are naturally drawn to specific types of learning. We help you create a space that respects their rhythm and honors their independence.
