Styling for Ads & Music Videos
High-energy sets, rapid wardrobe changes, and characters that need to look real from the first take. Whether it is a national TV ad or a music video, I specialize in styling that holds up under the studio lights and the pressure of a ticking clock.
The final look for the 'Money Man' character in a lottery advertisement, played by the wonderful Biju Kalaa. The bright blue kurta, gold waistcoat, and shiny shoes create a fun, aspirational character.
A scene from the lottery ad shoot. I styled the entire cast to create a rich, celebratory atmosphere, complete with a throne, gold bars, and vibrant traditional outfits.
It was an honor to style the legendary Vijay Raaz for a Multani Pachmeena Tonic TV ad. His look was kept simple and authentic to match the grounded feel of the product.
Stills from the music video 'Koyaliya'. I created a range of looks for the artists, from a vibrant orange sari for the lead singer to casual, earthy outfits for the band to create a bohemian, soulful vibe.
About Styling for Ads & Music Videos
TV commercial shoots are a different beast entirely. You might have just two hours to style 2,000 junior artists, or you are getting a lead actor camera-ready while the director waits. My job isn't just picking clothes; it is about on-set agility—making sure a saree doesn't slip during a dance sequence, handling last-minute wardrobe fixes inside a vanity van, and keeping character continuity consistent when the pace is relentless. If the look stays in place under the heat of the studio lights, I have done my job.
The Reality of Fast-Paced Styling
When you are working on TV ads or music videos, the glamour you see on screen is supported by a lot of frantic, behind-the-scenes work. I don't just dress people; I manage the chaos that happens between takes.
What I bring to your set:
- Rapid Turnarounds: Whether it is a 'Gold Man' costume or a bohemian look for a music video, I have the logistics down to a science. I source, tag, and prep everything so we minimize downtime.
- Technical Draping: If your actors are dancing or performing, costumes need to be secure. I use specialized safety pinning, taping, and stitching techniques—often right inside the vanity van—to ensure outfits stay perfect, no matter how much movement is involved.
- Character Archetypes: A TV ad is short; the audience needs to get the character instantly. Whether it is a funny aunt, a powerful don, or a relatable lottery winner, I build the look based on the script so it hits the mark immediately.
- On-Set Continuity: Nothing ruins a film like a button that changes from closed to open in the next shot. I track wardrobe details across every take, making sure your continuity is airtight so your editor does not have a headache later.
Sach kahun toh (honestly), it is not always glamorous, but I thrive in this space. I am used to long days and tight deadlines, and I am always ready to jump in to fix hair, adjust props, or help the crew get the shot right.
