Indian Classical Explorations
My musical foundation is built on the Raags of Varanasi. Explore the soulful, intricate side of my sitar work, where tradition meets modern improvisation.
Exploring the powerful and graceful melodies of Raag Kedar. These improvisations are a form of meditation for me, connecting me to the core of my art.
Unleashing inner melodies through an improvisation in Raag Charukeshi. This Raag is known for its emotional depth, which I love to express on the sitar.
A short improvisation in Raag Hameer. This is a glimpse into my daily practice, where I work on the alap and jod sections to maintain and enhance my skills.
About Indian Classical Explorations
When I record for a project, I don't just play the notes. I map out the Alap and Jod sections specifically to match the mood of your track—whether it's a sombre cinematic theme or a light, devotional morning piece. That structural decision is what makes the difference between a generic instrumental and a piece that truly defines the scene.
My approach to Indian classical music is defined by my roots in the Banaras Gharana and my PhD training from BHU. While my YouTube and Instagram showcases feature solo improvisations in Raags like Kedar, Charukeshi, and Hameer, my professional work goes deeper than just performance.
The Process
When you book a session for a film score, web series, or album, I treat the instrument as a voice. I don't just provide a generic 'sitar track'. I work with the specific scale of your composition to ensure the microtones (shrutis) are accurate to the Raag, but also adapted to fit modern recording standards.
Why the PhD Matters
It isn't about the degree on the wall, but the years spent understanding the grammar of Indian classical music. This allows me to improvise on the spot during studio sessions without needing a fully written score. If you need a specific emotion—longing, joy, or suspense—I can call upon the appropriate Raag and play it with the technical precision required for professional broadcast quality.
For Your Project
Whether you are looking for:
- Authentic Alap/Jod for a film score: Creating atmosphere through traditional structures.
- Devotional recordings: Pure, clean sitar lines for yoga, meditation, or devotional albums.
- Fusion textures: Using the electric Zitar to cut through dense modern arrangements.
I bring the same rigor to every take. You get dry and wet WAV stems, allowing your mixing engineer full control. I am based in Mumbai but travel across India for sessions that require that specific, traditional sound.
