About My Work in Film & TV
When I step into the recording booth, the goal is finding the exact texture the music requires. Whether a project calls for the resonance of an acoustic sitar to ground a melody or the electric, punchy vibe of a Zitar to cut through a modern arrangement, I focus on the sound design first. My priority is always to serve the composer's vision, ensuring the performance sits perfectly in the mix.
My journey as a session artist began with a focus on blending the classical rigor of my PhD training with the evolving demands of Mumbai's film and television landscape. Working on soundtracks like 'Zara Hatke Zara Bachke' with composers like Sachin-Jigar or contributing to the score of 'Bandish Bandits' has taught me that a session musician must be as adaptable as they are skilled.
The Studio Experience
- Technical Versatility: I record both acoustic and electric instruments. The acoustic Sitar is my go-to for soulful, devotional, and traditional tracks, while the Zitar—my electric sitar—is ideal for high-energy fusion, rock elements, and songs where the instrument needs to compete with drums and synthesisers.
- Collaborative Approach: Whether it is a late-night recording session or a live-to-air TV performance for shows like 'Saregamapa Li'l Champs', I treat every take as a collaboration. I am accustomed to working alongside music producers, understanding the technical requirements of a film score, and providing stems that require minimal editing.
