Behind the Scenes: The Art of My Handmade Jewellery
Every piece of jewellery I make is a journey of ideation, creation, and patience. Here is a look inside my studio where clay, wood, and tradition come together.
Watch my terracotta jewels come alive. This is a story about mud that I knead, mold, and bake. Each piece is then hand-painted with care, so you get to wear a story that’s handmade just for you.
This is the first step in creating my golden jewellery. I carefully apply real gold foil over the embossed gesso design. It's a delicate process that brings a unique, fascinating texture to each piece.
After applying the gold leaf, the real artistry begins. I use fine brushes to enhance the design with vibrant colors and intricate outlines, giving the pendant a beautiful three-dimensional effect.
Many think painting on a small canvas is easier, but it requires immense precision and skill. This video shows the intricate brushwork needed to create the details on a miniature painting of a royal elephant.
I source beautiful, GI-tagged textiles like Kalamkari from Andhra and Kutch embroidery from Gujarat to create these unique fabric pendants. It’s my way of celebrating and preserving India's rich textile heritage in my jewellery.
I believe in giving beautiful objects a new life. Here, I've transformed a simple wooden comb into a vibrant, hand-painted statement necklace. This is my vision of sustainable, wearable art.
This is the magic of handmade art. I love showing how a simple clay form of Maa Durga is transformed with careful painting and detailing into a piece full of divine glory. It’s a spiritual experience for me every single time.
About this collection
Many ask why I don't produce my work in bulk, but it is because a single miniature-painted wooden pendant can take me 15 days to complete, from the initial sketch to the final varnishing. When you reach out, you are not just buying an accessory, you are joining a slow, intentional process that respects the craft.
My creative process is deeply rooted in the traditions I grew up with. Whether I am kneading terracotta clay for a necklace set or delicately applying 24k gold foil to a gesso base, I want the end result to feel like a story you can wear.
The Process Matters
- Terracotta: It starts with raw earth. I knead, mold, and bake the clay, ensuring each set has a substantial, earthy feel. After it is fired, the hand-painting brings the deities and folk motifs to life.
- Miniatures: These are tiny canvases. Painting Maa Durga or a royal elephant on a 7.5cm wooden disc requires immense precision. I treat these like art pieces, applying multiple layers of paint to ensure depth before sealing them with resin for a glass-like, durable finish.
- Textiles & Upcycling: I incorporate GI-tagged fabrics like Kalamkari and Kutch embroidery because they connect my work to India's vast textile history. I also love the challenge of upcycling—taking a simple wooden comb and transforming it into a vibrant, wearable statement piece.
Why I Take Time
I prefer to avoid quick fixes. My resin top-coats take time to cure, and my painted outlines are done by hand, one stroke at a time. This is not factory work. It is slow-made, personal, and designed to last. If you are looking for something that carries the soul of Indian folk art, that is exactly what I aim to create for you.
Greengold
I'm the hands behind Greengold, a Bangalore-based studio where Indian folk art meets everyday style. I spend my days kneading terracotta, applying gold leaf, and painting intricate details on wood to turn traditions like Theyyam and Kalamkari into stories you can wear.
