Miniature Waterscapes and Resin Garden Bowls
I create self-contained worlds in glass, blending live tropical plants with realistic resin water. These tiny ecosystems bring a slice of nature to your desk or home.
This miniature beach scene in a glass bowl features a resin water effect, a rock waterfall, and real seashells. The low maintenance tropical plants, like the small palm and bromeliad, complete this tiny coastal landscape.
Another view of the resin beach terrarium, showing how the different elements come together. The clear resin mimics calm water, while the sand, rock, and live plants create a natural-looking shoreline in this unique dish garden.
A close-up detail of the miniature waterfall I crafted from resin. I added bits of moss to the rock to give it an aged, natural look, making the water feature a central point of this tiny ecosystem.
About Miniature Waterscapes
One thing to consider before placing your order is the light in your chosen spot. While these resin bowls are visually stunning, the live plants inside—like miniature ferns or bonsai—thrive best in bright, indirect light. Placing your waterscape near a north or east-facing window is usually ideal, as it gives the ecosystem enough energy to grow without the harsh heat of direct afternoon sun.
How I Build Your Tiny Ecosystem
Every waterscape starts with a vision of a natural landscape. I use 12 to 14-inch heavy-duty glass bowls to create these scenes, carefully layering specialized substrates like LECA and activated charcoal to ensure the living plants stay healthy. The water you see is high-grade, non-yellowing epoxy resin, which I tint to capture the depth of a real pond or beach.
Why Resin and Plants Work Together
I love blending resin with live vegetation because it offers the best of both worlds. You get the artistic, permanent look of a water feature with the fresh, breathing element of a miniature garden. The rock cliffs are porous and textured to look aged, while the shoreline is crafted from real sand or gravel. I often tuck in small bonsai or tropical foliage to create a sense of scale, making it feel like you are looking at a living, breathing landscape.
Caring for Your Waterscape
These are low-maintenance arrangements, but they are still living things. Because the base is designed with proper drainage layers, you rarely need to worry about water logging the plants. When you receive your arrangement, I include a care guide that explains exactly how much to water your specific plant variety. Since I propagate most of my plants right here in my studio, they are already acclimatized and ready to settle into your home.
Sustainability at the Core
As a practitioner of permaculture, I aim to minimize waste in everything I make. From the resin mixing process to the way I source and root my cuttings, every step is calculated to be eco-friendly. I believe that even a small bowl of greenery can help you feel more connected to nature, especially in a busy city like Mumbai.
