Practical Self-Defense & Kumite Training
Dojo discipline meets street-ready techniques. We train students to handle real-life pressure through controlled, safe sparring and tactical combat drills.
Here we demonstrate the practical use of Jodan Uke (face-level block) to defend against a stick attack. This training builds reflexes, coordination, and the confidence to face a real threat.
Power in kicks comes from relentless conditioning. In this video, Senpai Vicky Sir and Senpai Sumit Sir practice Mae Geri (front kick) drills, showing the toughness required to build a strong offense.
This clip from our archives shows students practicing a Kumite (sparring) technique taught by Senpai Akshay Gawde. This drill focuses on timing, distance, and executing a clean high kick (jodan geri).
Sensei Chetan Sir demonstrates an 'Ippon Waza' or full point technique. This combination of a sweep (barai) and a follow-up strike is a high-level skill used in competition kumite to score decisively.
This is our Team Jiyu Kumite (free sparring) drill. Students learn to handle multiple opponents in a controlled environment, developing awareness and adaptability for self-defense without allowing face or groin hits.
A conditioning session from our 48th Karate-Do Camp. These drills are designed to build the strength, stamina, and resilience needed for effective kumite and overall physical fitness.
About Real-World Skills: Kumite & Self-Defense
We run controlled sparring (Kumite) sessions, but we strictly avoid face and groin hits. This lets you practice high-intensity reactions without the risk of injury, building the reflexes you would actually need if you were ever cornered in a real situation.
At our Parel dojo, we follow the philosophy of our Grand Master Ramesh Parab Sir: 'The more you sweat in the dojo, the less you bleed in combat.' This approach defines our Kumite (sparring) and self-defense training.
Training Methodology
We don't just teach choreography. We focus on practical application.
- Defensive Reactions: We drill techniques like Jodan Uke (face-level block) so you learn to react instantly to a stick or physical attack without freezing.
- Controlled Sparring: Our Jiyu Kumite (free sparring) is high-intensity but highly disciplined. By removing dangerous strike zones like the face and groin, we allow students to go full speed with their speed, timing, and footwork, which is where real skill is developed.
- Ippon Waza: We teach you how to end a confrontation decisively. You will learn the combination of sweeps (barai) and strikes required to score a full point, which translates to neutralizing a threat quickly.
Why Practice Here?
Whether you are a beginner or looking to sharpen your combat instincts, our sessions are designed to test your physical conditioning and mental toughness. We train at the Hindveer Seva Sangh, Parel, in a traditional environment that strips away the ego and focuses on the craft. If you are looking to build the confidence to handle yourself in a confrontation, this is the place to start. Practice karayla tayaar raha (be ready to practice).
