Why Your Large Breed Needs Specific Care

Many owners of large, double-coated breeds like Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and Huskies worry about shedding. The common mistake is thinking a shave will help. Please, don't do it. Shaving a double-coated dog ruins their natural ability to regulate body temperature and protects them from heatstroke.

The 'Close-Open-Close' Method

I don't just brush the surface. I use a systematic de-shedding technique:

1. Close: I start with a pre-bath conditioning treatment to loosen the undercoat.
2. Open: A hydro-massage bath and thorough blow-out open the coat to release trapped fur.
3. Close: A final sealant rinse ensures the remaining coat is smooth, healthy, and manageable.

Hygiene Beyond the Coat

Big dogs need big care. When they are on my table, we address the full package:

• Paw & Pad Care: Trimming the fur between paw pads to prevent slipping on tiles, which is critical for large, heavy breeds.
• Nail Grinding: Large dogs can put significant pressure on their paws. I use rotary grinding to ensure nails are smooth, not just cut.
• Sanitary Trims: Essential for keeping long-haired breeds clean and hygienic.
