Living and Lounge Furniture with Structural Integrity
We design custom seating, consoles, and center tables where raw materials like seasoned teak and industrial steel meet considered, structural logic.

About Living & Lounge Furniture
We don’t hide our process. Every sofa or console we build is constructed using honest joinery—traditional mortise and tenon for our timber frames and precision-engineered steel for our bases. We believe furniture should be as structurally sound as the buildings we design, so we prioritize durability and raw material finish over hidden veneers. If you want furniture that functions as well as it looks, let's look at the specs for your space.
Our Approach to Living Furniture
At Funktion Design, we see furniture as an extension of architecture. We don't just fill space; we create structural pieces that define it. Whether it is a three-seater sofa or a low-profile coffee table, the engineering behind the piece is part of the visual language.
Materials & Craft
- Solid Wood: We work exclusively with seasoned teak, acacia, and white ash. You will not find engineered board overlays here. We celebrate the natural grain, finishing surfaces with PU polish for heat and water resistance while maintaining a matte or satin texture.
- Industrial Steel: For our table bases and structural frames, we utilize 10mm-16mm mild steel solid rods. These are powder-coated in matte black or gunmetal, creating a contrast between the heavy weight of the wood and the visual lightness of the steel.
- Upholstery: Our seating focuses on long-term comfort. We use 40D to 50D high-density foam, ensuring that your sofa retains its shape for years, not months. Fabrics are premium-grade, selected for a Martindale rub count of over 20,000 for high-traffic living areas.
Customization for Your Floor Plan
Because we are an architectural studio, we understand that standard store-bought furniture often fails to account for the unique geometry of an urban apartment. Whether you need a specific table height to match a window ledge, or a sofa length that fits a trapezoidal living room, we adjust the fabrication accordingly. We provide custom-tailored sizing for all our pieces, ensuring the furniture integrates into your home without visual friction.
