Ornate and Traditional Art Framing in Mumbai
Honoring traditional Pichwais, heirlooms, and religious art with frames that match their cultural richness and ensure lasting preservation.
We had the privilege of restoring and reframing this treasured Shrinathji, a family heirloom. We chose an ornate wooden frame with gold leafing and used museum glass to protect the piece while showcasing its rich history and sentimental value.
This breathtaking 4.5ft by 6ft Pichwai masterpiece is a testament to India's rich traditions. We encased it in a classic wooden moulding with museum glass and secured it with a marine ply backing to ensure it lasts a lifetime.
Here is the final look of the beautiful Krishna Bhagwan artwork. We used a golden fillet, a forest green mat, and an antique gold frame to give the piece the prominence it deserves. The use of museum glass ensures the colors remain vibrant.
A close-up of the framing choices for the Krishna artwork. The inner golden fillet adds a layer of detail that separates the art from the mat, while the antique gold HDPS frame provides a luxurious finish.
Every Pichwai carries devotion in every brushstroke. For this piece of Shrinathji, we chose an ornate frame and protected it with museum glass, ensuring its sacred beauty stays timeless and free from distraction.
Ornate frames, typically made from 100% solid wood, are perfect for adding a royal touch to portraits, mirrors, or large-scale traditional artworks like Pichwais. They enhance the piece without overpowering it, creating a stunning final look.
For this oversized Hanuman Chalisa artwork, we chose a strong High-Density Fiber (HDF) frame to support the weight of the glass. We used a double frame design, with one acting as a fillet, to enhance the artwork and give it a rich, traditional feel.
This exquisite Lord Krishna artwork is elegantly presented in a black ornate frame. The intricate carvings of the frame complement the detailed painting, while a simple white mat provides a clean border that draws the eye inward.
We preserved the timeless beauty of this traditional artwork by using a sleek black wooden frame with museum-grade glass. This combination ensures every detail shines through without any distracting reflections, giving the piece a modern yet classic elegance.
This breathtaking Tanjore painting of two elephants showcases a traditional Indian art style known for its rich colors and gold foils. We framed it with care to preserve its intricate details and vibrant, mesmerizing beauty.
About Ornate & Traditional Styles
Traditional art requires specific protection. We use marine ply backing to prevent surface waviness and incorporate spacers to keep the glass from touching the artwork. This protects delicate details from Mumbai's humidity while keeping your piece looking perfect.
When framing traditional and religious art like a Pichwai or an antique Shrinathji, the goal is balance. You want a frame that complements the intricate, royal nature of the artwork without overshadowing it. We often recommend ornate, solid wood frames for these pieces, as they provide the necessary weight and presence to match the art's cultural significance.
However, beauty is only half the process. Traditional art is often sensitive to its environment. We prioritize preservation by using archival-grade, acid-free matting that prevents yellowing over time. For glazing, we suggest museum-grade glass, which cuts glare and blocks 99% of UV rays, ensuring the vibrant colors and gold foil accents remain as bright as the day they were painted.
We also avoid shortcuts like using standard tape, which can damage the original work. Instead, we use reversible, archival-safe mounting techniques like T-hinging. Every piece, regardless of its size, undergoes our inspection process to ensure the frame provides a sealed, protective environment against dust and fungus. Whether it is a large-scale Hanuman Chalisa or a small, personal heirloom, our aim is to ensure your art remains safe and presentable for the next generation.
