Sharing a moment where I got to dive deep into the philosophy of Indian architecture, design, and our rich history of craft with Tim Cook.

Explaining the intricate carvings of a traditional temple chariot to Tim Cook at the National Crafts Museum. It was an incredible opportunity to discuss the depth and significance of Indian design.

In deep conversation with Tim Cook inside a restored Haveli at the museum. We spoke about everything from the philosophies of Charles Correa to the principles of Vaastu.

A screenshot of Tim Cook's tweet after our walkthrough, where he mentioned his appreciation for India's deep and beautiful culture of craft. A truly humbling moment.

A full view of the magnificent temple chariot. Sharing my knowledge, built over four generations of my family's history with art, was a culmination of my life's work.

Another look at Tim Cook's generous post. This experience was a powerful reminder of the global interest in Indian design and craftsmanship.

A candid shot from the museum tour. Tim's genuine interest and simple, uncomplicated energy made the conversation so easy and encouraging.

Another angle of me explaining the scale and craftsmanship of the wooden chariot to Tim Cook. Today was a very, very good day.

About this collection

This walkthrough at the National Crafts Museum was not just a tour; it was an open conversation about what makes Indian spaces feel alive. We discussed everything from the structural logic of courtyard homes to the spatial principles of Vaastu. I shared the knowledge passed down through four generations of my family—130 years of history in art and antiques—and how it informs the way I design modern, functional spaces today.

It is a surreal feeling to look back at this day. Walking through the National Crafts Museum with someone as influential as Tim Cook, explaining the depth of Indian craftsmanship, felt like the culmination of my life’s work. My 14 years in the field, combined with an education from Duke and Oxford, all seemed to lead to that morning. We spoke about the legacy of architects like Charles Correa and the tangible, tactile nature of Indian artefacts.

This experience reinforced why I do what I do at Essajees Atelier. Whether I am designing a restaurant in Mumbai or a residence in Dubai, I bring that same obsession with history, spatial narrative, and quiet strength to every project. My work is not about following fleeting trends. It is about creating spaces that honour where we come from while serving how we live today. If you are looking for design that tells a story—your story—let's talk.
