Here, I talk about the challenges designers face, from managing client expectations to the importance of a clear design process. I also introduce the motivation behind starting the Estilo Designs workshops.
My advice and direction for new designers starting their careers. I emphasize the importance of discipline, consistency, and knowing your worth, sharing lessons from my own experience of starting my office.
About Featured In: Livpro Magazine
My Livpro Magazine feature pulls back the curtain on the real challenges of running a design studio. It is not just about aesthetic choices, but about the patience required for site management, the technicalities of client contracts, and the collaborative process of creating spaces that feel personal.
The Reality of Design
Moving from civil engineering to the creative side of interiors was a shift that changed how I approach projects. In this feature, I talk about why I started Estilo Designs—not just to build beautiful rooms, but to build places where people feel at peace. Whether it is a residential renovation or a commercial fit-out, the process often involves more problem-solving than pure design, and I believe in being transparent about that.
Beyond the Aesthetic
I often tell my students and clients that design is a collaborative, iterative journey. It requires defining scope, managing expectations, and being honest about what is achievable within a timeline. My philosophy is rooted in creating 'joyful spaces,' which means I prioritize functionality and comfort over chasing trends.
Mentorship & Professional Practice
One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been teaching. I noticed that many designers struggle with the 'business' side of the job—contracts, fee proposals, and vendor coordination. I started my masterclasses to bridge this gap. By sharing my own experience with project hurdles, I aim to provide aspiring designers with the practical knowledge I wish I had when I was starting out.
If you are looking for a design partner who values clear communication, or if you are a fellow designer interested in the business of practice, let us talk about how we can collaborate.
