Explore the deep emotional landscape of Kathak through the Jaipur Gharana tradition. Learn to tell stories that resonate with grace, technique, and true feeling.

Abhinaya, or expression, is the soul of Kathak. In this piece, I interpret the nuanced emotions of a ghazal, showing how we use subtle gestures and expressions to tell a story that transcends words.

Krishna is the divine thread that binds us all. This is my ode to His presence, a performance of a beautiful Meera bhajan that captures the essence of love and devotion through expressive dance.

Finding the 'laya' or innate rhythm of a character is a specialty of the Jaipur repertoire. This unique choreography portrays the Abhisarika Nayika, a heroine going to meet her beloved, set in the complex Tishra Jaati.

This is a rare and beautiful composition on the Abhisarika Nayika, taught by my Guruji. It's one of my favorite pieces to perform, as it allows for deep exploration of character and emotion through abhinaya.

"Women in love are like an ocean, whose depths can never be measured." This piece explores the profound emotions of love through the expressive lens of a ghazal, a key part of our abhinaya training.

A moment of quiet devotion on Janmashtami. May I always stay at His feet, dancing to the tune of His divine love. This image captures the internal state of bhava that fuels our dance.

Lost in the thought of Krishna. This pose, part of a Janmashtami photoshoot, reflects the complete surrender and blissful state of a devotee, an emotion we often explore in our abhinaya workshops.

A moment of spontaneous dance after a shoot, inspired by a beautiful song. This captures the simple joy of movement and expression, finding poetry in the sky and the music.

Indian music and poetry have so many layers, and dance is the best tool to explore them. This short abhinaya piece interprets the feeling of longing and separation expressed in a thumri.

The art of letting go without any noise. This expressive piece delves into the pain of loss and the quiet strength it takes to move on, using the subtle language of abhinaya to convey complex emotions.

About Abhinaya & Bhava: The Art of Expression

Many dancers treat expression as an afterthought, but here, it is the starting point of the practice. My approach to these workshops involves breaking down the 'Nayika' archetypes and the internal emotional landscape of a Thumri or Ghazal before we even focus on the movement. We analyze the 'why' behind every gesture, ensuring your performance comes from a place of genuine intent rather than just memorized steps.
