The Story Behind Our Recycled Plastic Creations
We are Sonal and Vaibhav. Our journey from a mountain trek to building Econscious is fueled by one simple belief: impact bada banana hai (we have to make a big impact). See how we turn plastic waste into stories worth sharing.
After five years of working on the ground, we are excited to share our journey with you. We are Sonal and Vaibhav, and we started Econscious to turn plastic waste into things you'll love. Stay tuned as we share what we have learned.
Here we are, doing what we love. We often find ourselves working on our recycled plastic furniture, a constant reminder of our mission to combine design with sustainability.
Four years at a glance. This collage captures some of our proudest moments, from receiving awards to being acknowledged by the Prime Minister on 'Mann Ki Baat'. It's a reminder of how far we have come on this journey.
Seeing our work featured in SPAN Magazine was a wonderful moment. It reinforced our vision to reduce plastic pollution and create awareness, showing that our hard work is making a real difference.
Our philosophy is simple: think outside the trash. We see potential where others see waste, and we are dedicated to creating a circular economy where every piece of plastic gets a new life.
About Our Story: The Couple Behind the Cause
Everything you see here started in a small workshop with a simple drive to divert landfill waste. When you pick a piece from our collection, you aren't just buying decor; you are directly supporting the process of shredding, molding, and hand-finishing plastic that would otherwise pollute our oceans. Every pattern is naturally formed during our melting process, meaning your specific piece is unique, with its own quirks and finish, just like nature intended.
Our Origin Story
It all started with a mountain trek. We saw plastic waste scattered where nature should have been untouched, and that frustration turned into a question: what if we could actually do something about it? As first-generation entrepreneurs, the path wasn't clear, but we knew we wanted to make a tangible difference. We started small with tiny decor pieces, but soon realized that if we wanted to make a big impact, we had to scale up. That drive eventually led to our signature recycled plastic benches and home accessories.
Turning Waste Into Wonder
We don't just 'recycle' in the abstract. We collect discarded bottle caps, wrappers, and post-consumer plastic, then shred and compress them into sturdy, usable sheets. This process is how we’ve managed to divert over 3,50,000 kgs of plastic from landfills to date.
Because we use a melting process, the plastic swirls in ways we can't fully dictate. Some pieces come out looking like marble, others like terrazzo. It means that while the quality is consistent, the design of your coaster, planter, or shelf is one-of-a-kind. It is our way of proving that sustainability doesn't have to be boring—it can be colorful, functional, and durable.
Why We Do It
We didn't go viral overnight; we just kept going. Whether it's our desk organizers, bookshelves that use 5kg of plastic waste, or our colorful planters, every item is a reminder that we can live better without creating more trash. We are constantly experimenting and learning, and we’re happy to have you on this journey with us.
Econscious
We’re Sonal and Vaibhav, and Econscious is our daily grind. We started this to turn the plastic pollution we saw on our travels into things that actually belong in your home. We handle every step, from processing the waste to hand-finishing your products, to make sure it's done right.
