I bring the traditional Carnatic veena to any space, from grand temple stages to intimate living rooms. My recitals are all about that pure, soulful connection between the instrument, my co-artists, and you.

Deep in concentration during my evening concert at Jayaramaseva Mandali. Performing for a knowledgeable, packed house is always a joy and pushes me to give my best.

Performing for Hanuman Jayanthi at the famous Raggiguda temple. It's always special to play in such a spiritual atmosphere, and I was so happy to be back after a long time.

An unforgettable concert at the Seshadripuram Ramanavami festival, where it rained heavily throughout. Playing with the sound of the downpour was a surreal and unique experience in my 50-year career.

An outdoor concert in Whitefield, where the wind decided to join in. As a performing artist, you learn to embrace these challenges, it's all part of the adventure of live music.

A vibrant performance for Nada Jyothi Sabha's diamond jubilee at Malleswaram Rama Mandira. I love the energy of festival concerts like these, celebrating milestones with music.

Here I am, performing with my veena at a festival by Sevasadan. Each concert is a new story, and I love sharing the intricate melodies of Carnatic music with the audience.

A wonderful concert for Ramanavami at MLR Institution in Malleswaram. I am accompanied by my talented co-artists on violin, mridangam, and ghatam, who make every performance complete.

A heartfelt concert in memory of a great musician, BK Chandramouli. It is an honor to pay tribute to fellow artists through music, celebrating their life and contribution.

A unique setting for a concert at Windmills, surrounded by books. The atmosphere was so intimate and perfect for a solo veena recital, connecting with the audience on a deeper level.

Here is another view of my concert at Raggiguda temple for Hanuman Jayanthi. The backdrop of Lord Hanuman made this performance feel incredibly special and blessed.

About Solo Veena Recitals

I don't just show up to play. My team arrives 45 minutes early for a proper sound check because even a perfect raga can be ruined by bad audio balancing. For solo recitals, I perform with two skilled percussionists—usually on mridangam and ghatam—to ensure that the rhythmic dialogue is as precise as the melody, whether it is a temple festival or a private gathering at your home.

When you book a solo veena recital, you are inviting a 50-year musical journey into your space. Whether it is a traditional Kacheri format for a wedding or a themed concert at a cultural center, I stick to the roots while keeping the energy fresh.

What goes into the performance?

A standard recital spans 90 to 120 minutes. We cover the full Carnatic repertoire, including Varnam, Kritis, detailed Raga Alapana, and the rhythmic thrill of Tani Avartanam. I perform with a dedicated team—usually two professional percussionists and a tanpura operator—so you get a full, authentic sound.

Logistics and Setup

I am as comfortable in a quiet living room as I am in a grand auditorium. If the event is at a farmhouse or a private residence, we bring our own contact microphones and pickups for the Tarangini Veena to ensure the acoustics remain crisp. We don't just play; we engage. I love telling the audience about the ragas we are exploring and sharing the history behind the compositions.

If you have a specific venue in mind, reach out. I have performed in everything from heritage temples like Raggiguda to cozy bookstore stages, and I am happy to guide you on what setup will make the music sound its best in your specific space.

I am Suma, and the veena is my life. I have spent 50 years mastering this instrument, and I still get the same thrill every time I sit on stage. My goal is simple: to make classical Carnatic music accessible, alive, and enjoyable for everyone in the room, whether you are a connoisseur or just discovering the sound.
