About Veena & Carnatic Music Education
I find real joy in teaching veena and Carnatic music, even with my busy schedule of performing and composing. For me, sharing this ancient art is about more than just notes—it's about passing on a whole world of sound, emotion, and tradition.
My Approach
I bring lessons from my life as a performer, researcher, and the creator of the Tarangini Veena straight into our classes. You'll get more than just technique: we explore Carnatic music theory, dive into the stories behind legendary compositions, and really feel the music together. Learning Muttuswamy Dikshitar compositions is a big part of our sessions, and I make sure each student understands both the "how" and the "why" of every piece.
How Classes Work
- Classes at Tarangini Arts Foundation are structured for everyone—absolute beginners to those eyeing a professional path.
- We follow a syllabus, so you know where you're headed, whether that's junior level or all the way up to Vidwat.
- Group Veena ensemble practice is a highlight. When all of us play together, especially in big rehearsals, there's a kind of magic that just doesn't happen solo.
Beyond the Classroom
I believe music is for sharing, so students get ready for real performances, from rehearsals to the stage at venues like Chowdaiah Memorial Hall. I enjoy mentoring even outside class, helping with everything from stage nerves to career steps.
A Few Practical Bits
- Anyone can join—no age limit, just a passion for music.
- Classes happen both online and in-person in Malleswaram, Bangalore, so you can pick what works for you.
- Seats fill up fast since I keep batch sizes small for real attention.
If you're looking for Veena classes in Bangalore or want online Carnatic music training, my classes are a blend of tradition, fun, and a bit of that old Bangalore vibe.

My Story
Hey, I'm Suma. Music and adventure, that’s me! Folks see me with the veena, but I love a challenge. Like, I did the Sandakpoo trek even when everyone said, 'Ayyo, why risk it?' (Oh no, why risk it?) I trained hard, went anyway. Clouds, pain, stunning villages – totally worth it. But it's not just big treks. Even a morning walk at Bannerghatta, sunrise, old friends, and remembering legends like Vimala Rangachar auntie, all make life rich.
