About Underground Raves & Open-Air Sets
When I play outdoor sets, the technical setup is just as important as the playlist. I do not just show up to play; I like to consult on the PA and subwoofer placement beforehand to make sure that heavy psytrance bass does not get lost in the open air, keeping the sound club-quality no matter where we are.
Psytrance is designed to be a full-trip experience, and that requires more than just a loud speaker. In these open-air and underground settings, I prioritize the sound and visual synergy. This means working closely with venue VJs to sync geometric patterns and psychedelic visuals with the tempo, turning a standard party into an immersive journey.
My style shifts depending on the environment. For a sundowner or a festival, I lean into building momentum with driving, melodic transitions. If we are deep in an underground rave, I bring out the heavy, aggressive drops that define the pure 138-145+ BPM psytrance sound. Whether it is the legendary banyan tree at Pebble in Bangalore or a coastal spot in Goa, I adapt my gear requirements and mixing style to suit the specific acoustics of the space.
