About Learn the Ancient Art: Workshops
Learning Mysore painting is less about immediate perfection and more about the discipline of the process. In my workshops, we focus on the meditative nature of gesso embossing and 24kt gold leaf application. Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refine your technique, we provide all the materials and individual guidance to help you create your own piece from start to finish.
Our Approach to Teaching
Mysore painting is a meditative practice. It requires patience, steady hands, and a love for detail. My workshops are designed to break down this complex traditional art form into manageable, rewarding steps.
What We Cover
- Freehand Sketching: We start by learning the traditional postures and proportions of deities.
- Gesso Embossing: You will learn to use gesso to create the signature 3D texture, giving your painting depth and grandeur.
- Gold Leaf Application: This is the most precise part of the process. I guide you on how to apply real 24kt gold leaf to create the divine shine characteristic of authentic Mysore art.
Online and Offline Flexibility
I conduct these sessions personally. Because I work primarily in Kannada, my daughter, Amulya, joins our sessions to handle all English translations, ensuring no instruction gets lost in translation. Whether you are in Bengaluru and want to visit our studio or you are joining from elsewhere in India, we ship all the necessary materials—brushes, paints, gesso, and gold—directly to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need prior painting experience? No. We teach from scratch, and our batches are small enough that I can help every student with their specific strokes.
- Are materials included? Yes. Whether you join us online or offline, we ensure you have the correct high-quality materials to practice the traditional techniques.
- Can I choose the subject? We start with foundational subjects to ensure you grasp the techniques, but we often incorporate custom requests in our advanced sessions.
Raghavendra B B
I am Raghavendra, and I have spent 35 years refining this art form. Painting is a form of prayer for me, and teaching it is my way of keeping this heritage alive for the next generation. My daughter, Amulya, ensures that our classes run smoothly so we can focus entirely on the art.
