About The Magic of Dyes: Shibori & Bandhej
If you choose one of my Bandhej sarees, please remember that they always need a professional roll press before you drape them. This simple step is crucial because it sets the fabric, ensures the width sits perfectly, and really makes the pattern pop.
When I bring these pieces into the store, I look for that signature character—the slight variations that prove they were dyed by hand, not a machine. My Bandhej collection often uses luxurious Gajji silk or soft Mysore crepe, which provides a rich base for the delicate knots.
The Process
Shibori involves complex tie-dye techniques that I love for their modern, almost watercolor aesthetic. Bandhej is a heritage art, and you will often see me pair these with traditional Kanchipuram borders or combine Shibori with Bandhej on the same drape to create something new.
Why Roll Press?
I get asked about this a lot. Because these sarees are hand-knotted, they come to you compact. A professional roll press is not just for show; it expands the fabric to its full width and length, ensuring the fall is graceful. I always recommend this before your first wear.
Maintenance
Since these are hand-dyed, keep them away from direct sunlight when storing. If you are picking up a silk Bandhej for a wedding or a temple visit, let me know if you need help matching it with a custom blouse. I often suggest keeping the blouse simple or matching the border work to keep the focus on the vibrant patterns.
