About Our Story & Promise
I am extremely picky about what goes into our packets—I only use ingredients I would serve in my own home. We use real Amul butter, quality sunflower oil, and absolutely no preservatives or palm oil. When you rehydrate one of our meals, you aren't eating a processed snack; you are getting a full, freshly cooked meal that was freeze-dried to lock in the nutrition, texture, and taste without needing a single chemical additive.
Back in 2006, traveling as a vegetarian and a Jain was a nightmare. As an ex-air hostess, I spent years living on Theplas and Maggi because finding decent, pure veg food abroad was impossible. That struggle is exactly why I started Desi Khana. I wanted to build something that let people eat 'ghar jaisa khana'—proper, home-style food—whether they are students in a dorm in the US or families on a vacation in Europe.
How We Keep It Real
We use a 100% freeze-drying process, which is the same technology used for astronaut food. We don't just dehydrate the food; we freeze it and remove the water content completely. This keeps the meal shelf-stable for months without any preservatives or chemicals. It also makes our packets incredibly lightweight, so you can easily pack them in your check-in luggage without worrying about space or weight.
