From India’s first 4-star GRIHA-rated heliport to award-winning airport terminals, our work spans two decades of designing infrastructure that prioritizes human experience.
From a 3D render to a fully operational terminal, this is our vision for the Puducherry Airport brought to life. The design features an elegantly curved roofline and expansive glass facades to maximize natural light, creating a seamless and welcoming experience for travelers.
This is how our ideas take shape, moving from a hand-drawn sketch to a fully realized structure. We documented the journey of the Rohini Heliport to show our commitment to precision from the first line to the final build.
A glimpse into our conceptual work, this 3D render showcases a futuristic exterior facade design inspired by the facets of a diamond. We explored how faceted glass, vertical green terraces, and perforated screens can create a building that is both sculptural and sustainable.
This master plan for a residential community in Delhi demonstrates our approach to urban planning. Our primary goals were to preserve existing trees, create expansive green zones, and design a layout that prioritizes residents' well-being and community interaction.
We believe infrastructure should do more than just function; it should elevate the human experience. Airports, for example, can be transformed from simple transit points into memorable destinations through light-filled atriums, local materials, and thoughtful design.
We are honored to be recognized for our contribution to airport design at the Eldrok India Architecture Awards. This award is a testament to our team's dedication to creating world-class infrastructure in India.
Our design philosophy is simple: when spaces feel considered, people feel considered. We create public infrastructure and interiors that communicate respect and a sense of belonging to every person who uses them.
About Featured
We don't just draft plans; we study how people move through a space. Whether it’s an airport terminal in Puducherry or a master-planned township in Delhi, our process starts with site context—sun path, wind direction, and existing vegetation—before a single building form is decided. This is how we ensure that large-scale infrastructure doesn't just stand tall, but actually serves the communities that rely on it daily.
Architecture with Purpose
Infrastructure is the backbone of our cities, yet it is often designed purely for utility. At DesignICON, we believe these spaces should do more than just function; they should spark pride and facilitate connection. Our approach to large-scale architecture balances complex regulatory requirements—like DGCA or NBC norms—with sculptural, aesthetic intent.
Our Process
Our work typically follows a rigorous methodology:
- Site-First Analysis: Before we draw a single line, we map the topography, wind, and sun path. This dictates everything from facade placement to energy efficiency.
- Human-Centric Planning: In airports and mass housing projects, we prioritize pedestrian flow and 'quiet zones' to reduce transit fatigue, transforming waiting areas into comfortable destinations.
- Technical Coordination: From facade engineering to MEP integration and structural coordination, we handle the complex systems that make a building work, ensuring designs are buildable and durable.
Specialized Expertise
We focus on sectors that require high precision and safety compliance:
- Aviation Infrastructure: We design for movement. From pavement engineering for helipads to large-span terminal roofs, we ensure all designs meet ICAO and DGCA guidelines.
- Master Planning: We approach townships by preserving existing landscapes and integrating green buffers, focusing on long-term liveability rather than maximizing plot coverage.
- Facade & Materiality: We select materials—high-performance glass, steel, and stone—that stand up to high-traffic use while creating iconic landmarks that define a city's skyline.
