Project Spotlight: The Bammi Residence
A multi-generational home where light, life, and artistry converge. We designed this Gurugram residence as a series of interconnected, soul-stirring spaces that blend heritage craftsmanship with a contemporary narrative.
The conservatory, or sunroom, is rooted in a Wabi-Sabi aesthetic, embracing imperfection and natural elements. The space features a rustic coffee table from Nagaland and a striking horse sculpture from Jew Town, Kochi.
Another view of the sunroom, highlighting the comfortable sofas and the connection to the lush greenery outside. The design prioritizes natural light and an experiential link to the outdoors.
The conservatory features granite flooring with a unique pattern, chairs by Mahendra Doshi, and light installations by Oorjaa. The entire space is a curated collection of handcrafted pieces that exude a peaceful, timeless charm.
A view from the corridor into the sun-drenched conservatory. The design uses large glass panes and natural materials to blur the boundary between inside and out, creating a serene retreat within the home.
The powder room is a jewel box of opulence, featuring a luxurious Sabyasachi wallpaper. A stunning wall sconce by Shailesh Rajput and wooden fluted paneling create a warm, intimate, and sophisticated atmosphere.
The first-floor family lounge is a cozy retreat featuring art by Kaushik Saha and a whimsical piece by Samanta Batra Mehta. A stunning Flos light installation hangs above the breakfast counter, blending art with function.
A comfortable blue sofa and a 'Kolam' rug from Jaipur Rugs create a warm and inviting ambiance in the family lounge. The space is designed for relaxed family moments, combining functionality with aesthetic finesse.
About this collection
The basement dining room presented a unique challenge: a lack of natural light. We resolved this by incorporating intricate, Pinjirakari-inspired lattice work that acts as a light-filtering screen. This not only creates a warm, jewel-box atmosphere but also serves as a canvas for the curated artwork and camouflaged kitchen access, proving that even the most constrained spaces can become the home's most evocative room.
At the Bammi Residence in Gurugram, our goal was to create a multi-generational home that functions as a cohesive, soul-stirring narrative. Rather than treating each room as an isolated design unit, we envisioned the house as a sequence of experiences where light, materials, and art engage in a constant dialogue.
In the conservatory, we prioritized a Wabi-Sabi aesthetic. By grounding the space with a rustic coffee table from Nagaland and a sculptural horse from Jew Town, Kochi, we embraced imperfection and natural materials. The choice of granite flooring by Abhimanyu Dalal and light installations by Oorjaa ensures that this area remains a serene, timeless retreat that blurs the lines between the interior and the surrounding greenery.
Moving into the first-floor family lounge, the narrative shifts to one of relaxed sophistication. Here, we prioritized tactile comfort, layering a 'Kolam' rug from Jaipur Rugs with a plush blue sofa and art by Kaushik Saha. The inclusion of whimsical pieces, such as those by Samanta Batra Mehta, adds a layer of playfulness to the breakfast counter, demonstrating how we integrate art into daily life without it feeling detached or purely decorative.
Throughout this project, our focus remained on the architecture of storytelling. From the bespoke furniture sourced from Mahendra Doshi to the Flos lighting configurations, every element was selected to honor Indian craftsmanship while supporting contemporary living. Whether we are transforming a basement into an intimate dining jewel box or opening a living area to the terrace, our process remains rooted in contextual design—building spaces that resonate deeply with the people who inhabit them.
