My Artistic Journey: Watercolors and Beyond
A peek into the messy, happy, and fulfilling life of an artist juggling code, motherhood, and paintbrushes in Bangalore.
A messy art desk is always a happy place. This is a commissioned watercolor of an ancestral home, a magical piece to work on, seen here resting on my easel.
When the smallest one becomes my biggest critique. A real-life moment from my studio, juggling motherhood and my acrylic painting, with my little one keeping a close watch.
Here I am with my quick watercolor sketch of a KFC meal. It's fun to document these little moments of life with my sketchbook and paints.
Another shot of me holding my sketchbook. Capturing everyday scenes, even a fast food meal, is a big part of my artistic practice.
When you're stuck in traffic, you sketch. This was the bumpiest sketch I've ever done, capturing the view from inside an auto-rickshaw in Bangalore.
Me with my watercolor sketch of the mango cheesecake from Glen's. A perfect start to the day with good food and a little bit of painting.
Another photo of me with my cheesecake sketch. I love urban sketching and capturing the cafe culture of Bangalore in my favorite sketchbook.
A small glimpse of my painting displayed at the prestigious Fabriano in Acquarello 2024, an international watercolor festival in Italy. It was an honor to be a part of it.
Sharing a few moments from my recent art exhibition at IGNCA, Bangalore. It was wonderful to share a platform with so many talented artist friends.
So happy to have two of my artworks displayed at the 'EUPHORIA' Women's Day art show. Here I am next to my paintings, a portrait and a still life of temple bells.
About My Journey as an Artist
Art is never just about the finished canvas for me. It is a balancing act of chasing deadlines between my son’s naps and late-night coding sessions. Every piece you see here, from the bustling Bangalore streets in my sketches to the quiet stillness of temple bells, was born on a desk that is often covered in paint tubes, baby toys, and a half-drunk cup of chai.
My artistic practice is a visual diary of everything that moves me. I do not just paint objects. I paint the emotions tied to them, whether it is the nostalgia of a classic Yezdi scooter or the raw, vibrant chaos of Durga Pujo. When I am not coding, you will find me sketching inside an auto-rickshaw in traffic or capturing the exact look of a mango cheesecake at a local cafe.
My work has travelled to places I once only dreamt of, including the Fabriano in Acquarello in Italy and various editions of the India Art Festival and Chitrasanthe right here in Bangalore. These exhibitions are not just about displays. They are about meeting people who value the craft as much as I do. Seeing 14 of my paintings find new homes at Chitrasanthe 2024 was a moment of pure gratitude that keeps me picking up the brush even on the most tiring days.
I work primarily in watercolors, relying on professional-grade materials like Arches cotton paper and Mijello mission paints to ensure every stroke lasts. When I switch to acrylics for larger canvas works or wall murals, it is usually to capture something with more intensity, like the intricate details of a deity.
If you have a memory you want to preserve—perhaps an ancestral home that holds your childhood or a vehicle that defined a decade of your life—I would love to help you tell that story on canvas. Every commission I accept is painted with the same dedication I give to my exhibition pieces. Let us create something real, imperfect, and beautiful together.
