Original Festival and Celebration Paintings
Festivals are the heartbeat of India, and they fill my art with color and emotion. From the vibrant energy of Durga Puja to the quiet traditions of Ugadi, each piece is my way of sharing the festive spirit.
'Shubho Noboborsho'. A watercolor collage of quintessential Bengali things for the Bengali New Year. It's my way of connecting with my homeland, no matter how far I am.
Happy Ugadi. A quick mixed media sketch of the traditional Ugadi platter, done while enjoying the festive food. Art and food are the best combination.
Birthdays are always special. This watercolor painting captures the universal joy of blowing out candles on a birthday cake, a moment of pure happiness.
Happy 75th Republic Day. A quick watercolor sketch of children running with the Indian flag, painted while watching the parade on TV. A moment of pure nostalgia and pride.
Happy Sankranti. This video combines the joy of eating festive sweets with a quick watercolor sketch of the traditional Sankranti offerings.
'Paanipuri' is love. This watercolor sketch of a street food vendor is a tribute to India's favorite snack, a subject that always wins my heart.
A watercolor painting of the Kambala, an annual buffalo race in Karnataka. This was my tribute for Karnataka Rajyotsava, celebrating a unique tradition of the state I call home.
'Kahin nahi hai doosra Hindustan' (There is no other India). A watercolor collage of the million things that make our country special, painted for Independence Day.
Namma Bengaluru. A watercolor collage of all the things I love about this city, from the auto-rickshaws and Koshy's to the Karaga festival. It's a love letter to Bangalore.
About Festivals and Celebrations
I create these pieces on 300 GSM cotton paper using professional-grade Mijello or Daniel Smith watercolors. Whether it is a quick sketch of an Ugadi spread or a detailed study of Durga Puja, I use these archival materials to ensure the colors stay vibrant, just like the festive memories they represent.
Festivities in India have a rhythm that I constantly try to capture. When I paint these scenes, I am not just recreating an image, but the feeling of 'Dugga elo' or the taste of festive sweets like we have during Sankranti.
My approach varies based on the mood. Sometimes, I dive into a detailed, layered watercolor study when I have the time. Other pieces are quick sketches, done in the moment, reflecting the spontaneous joy of a holiday. I use premium 100% cotton paper because these paintings are often kept as keepsakes, and I want them to last as long as the memories attached to them.
From the buffalo races of Kambala to the quiet joy of blowing out birthday candles, I love how diverse our celebrations are. Each artwork is hand-signed and comes with a matte, textured finish that highlights the watercolor medium. If you have a specific festival or a family tradition you want immortalized on paper, I am happy to discuss a commission. You get an original piece that brings the festive vibe right into your living space, without the mass-produced look of prints.
