Daily Life Sketches: My Travel & Journal Diaries
From auto-rickshaw rides in Bangalore traffic to cafe dessert moments, this is my world captured in paint. Quick, messy, and full of heart.
A watercolor sketch of my favorite mango cheesecake from Glen's Bakehouse. What better way to spend a holiday than enjoying a delicious dessert and painting it too?
The same cheesecake sketch, shown alongside the real thing. I love doing these still life paintings on my favorite Lilorosh sketchbook.
Here I am with my finished cheesecake sketch. Cafe sketching is a wonderful way to relax and practice my art while enjoying the city.
Another shot with my watercolor sketch. These quick studies are a fun way to document my day and the little things that bring me joy.
A quick watercolor sketch of a snack, done while catching up with friends. My sketchbook allows me to capture these moments instantly.
Holding up my finished snack sketch. I always carry my paints with me, so I'm ready whenever inspiration strikes.
When you're stuck in Bangalore traffic, you sketch. This was one of the bumpiest sketches I've ever done, capturing the auto-rickshaw in front of me.
A plein air watercolor sketch of a boat on the beach in Pondicherry. Even though the sunrise was hidden by clouds, the beach never disappoints an artist.
A quick morning sketch of a banana seller in his shop. I try to seize these rare, quiet moments to paint before the day's hustle begins.
The banana seller sketch in my Brustro sketchbook, with my watercolor palette nearby. These daily life scenes are among my favorite subjects.
About Sketches from Life: My Travel & Daily Journal
These aren't studio-perfect pieces. They are raw, immediate reactions to life around me. Whether I am stuck in Bangalore traffic or grabbing a quick tea, I reach for my Lilorosh sketchbook and Mijello Mission paints to freeze the moment. If you want a piece of art that feels like an authentic slice of daily life, this is where it starts.
My sketchbook is my constant companion. It does not matter if I am travelling to Pondicherry or just sitting on my balcony with a cup of tea; if a moment strikes me, I paint it.
Why Daily Sketches Matter
Most of my work here is 'plein air' or 'on the go'. This means you are seeing the result of spontaneity. When I sketched the banana seller in his shop or the auto-rickshaw driver in front of me, I had to work fast before the scene changed. This speed gives the paintings a loose, vibrant energy that you cannot replicate in a long studio session.
My Process
I am not precious about these journals. I use high-quality materials like Arches paper and Mijello Mission pigments because I want them to last, but the subject matter is always humble. It might be a mango cheesecake from Glen’s Bakehouse, a bag of bread from my Sunday breakfast, or a snippet of my own garden.
Can I sketch your memory?
Yes. If you have a specific travel memory, a view from your childhood home, or a daily habit you want to preserve on paper, I can do that. I bring the same approach to your commissions that I use for my own journals—focusing on the feeling of the place rather than just the lines. You tell me the story behind the photo, and I will capture the soul of it on 300GSM professional paper.
It is about turning the 'ordinary' into something you can hold onto. Let’s make something beautiful out of your memories.
