When a community animal is trapped or critically injured, our rescue team is the first to arrive. See how we navigate Bangalore’s streets to bring them to safety.

This dog had fallen into a sump at a construction site and was trapped for over a day. Our rescue team was called in and successfully used a safety net to pull the terrified dog out.

A community dog fell into a deep well, and our team was called to the scene. This video shows our rescuer repelling down to safely secure the dog in a net and pull her back to safety.

We receive over 50 distress calls daily. This video gives a glimpse into our busy reception, our dedicated team, and why we need your support to continue answering these calls for help.

About this collection

We receive over 50 distress calls every day across Bangalore, from animals trapped in construction sumps to victims of road accidents. Our rescue is not just about driving an ambulance; it involves technical extraction using safety nets and sometimes repelling gear, followed by immediate trauma triage at our Sanjayanagara centre. Please note that our emergency services are prioritized for critical street cases; if you find an animal in distress, the quickest way to help is to secure the area and share a live location pin with us immediately.

How We Manage Emergency Rescues

Our rescue operations are built on the principle of compassion plus action. We operate a fleet of ambulances capable of handling diverse terrains and injury types, but the reality is that our capacity is often stretched by the volume of city-wide distress calls.

The Rescue Process

  • Assessment: When a call comes in, we triage based on the severity of the injury or the immediate threat to the animal's life.
  • Technical Extraction: Animals stuck in wells, sumps, or difficult construction sites require specialized gear. Our team uses humane catch-poles, nets, and when necessary, rappelling techniques to reach animals that are otherwise inaccessible.
  • Trauma Triage: Once rescued, the animal is moved to our Sanjayanagara Trauma Centre. Here, the focus shifts to stabilization, digital X-rays, wound debridement, and, if required, surgical intervention for crushed limbs or major trauma.

Practical Guidance for Rescuers

We rely heavily on citizens on the ground to act as the first responders. If you spot an animal in distress, do not wait for the team to arrive to start helping if it is safe to do so. Clear the crowd, keep the animal calm, and ensure they are not further agitated. If the animal is in a dangerous location like a well, mark the spot clearly and stay in communication with our dispatch team. Our emergency services for community animals are free, funded by our SASH hospital and public donations, allowing us to focus on the animals that need us most.
