Vibrant Watercolor and Mixed Media Portraits
Sometimes the best way to capture a feeling is through art rather than a photograph. I use watercolors and mixed media to bring a soft, fluid energy to your memories.
A client from Mumbai wanted a special watercolor painting for her son's naming ceremony. I created this colorful portrait of baby Ayansh, a piece she loved and used for the special occasion.
A quick reveal of a watercolor portrait of Krishna. I often get lost in the process of painting, and I'm always learning and trying to improve with each piece.
This video shows my watercolor process, from laying down the initial colors to building up the details of the dress and features. You can see the painting come to life layer by layer.
A fun caricature art piece created with watercolors. The bright, expressive colors in the background add a lot of personality to this stylized portrait.
An old video showing my process of creating a mixed-media portrait. I started with watercolor and then added details with soft pastels to enhance the colors and textures.
A watercolor portrait of a man against a simple green background. The focus here is entirely on the face, capturing a direct and engaging expression with fluid brushstrokes.
This couple's portrait was created using mixed media, primarily watercolors with pastel details. The abstract background adds a modern touch to the piece.
About Vibrant Watercolor & Mixed Media Art
You don't need a perfect photo to get a great result. My mixed media process usually starts with fluid watercolors to set the mood, and I layer in soft pastels to sharpen the details where it matters. It is a bit of a process, but it allows me to fix tricky lighting or messy backgrounds that a simple sketch might miss.
Why Watercolor and Mixed Media?
Watercolor has a fluid, unpredictable quality that captures life in a way a crisp, digital print just can’t. My work here isn't just about painting faces; it’s about that soft, expressive look that feels warm on a wall. By combining watercolor with soft pastels, I get the best of both worlds: the dreamy background wash of paint and the sharp, defined texture of pastels for eyes, hair, and clothing.
The Process
- The Brief: Send me your photo. If it is blurry, or has a distracting background, don't worry. I am used to working with whatever raw material we have.
- The Layering: I start with watercolor washes. These build the color palette and the atmosphere of the piece.
- The Detail: Once the base is dry, I go in with soft pastels. This defines the features and gives the portrait a physical depth that pure watercolor sometimes lacks.
My Philosophy
I am not a machine, and I don't aim for cold, photorealistic perfection. My goal is to capture the truth—the mood of the person, that specific sparkle in their eye, or the way they smile. If you are looking for someone to help frame a memory, this is the style for you. I ship these artworks safely rolled in PVC tubes across India, so you just need to get them framed locally. Whether it is a naming ceremony portrait or a thoughtful gift, let's talk about what makes sense for your space.
