Our Design Journey and Accolades
Eight years ago, eight friends started with a shared dream. Today, we are a multidisciplinary practice across three cities, honored to be recognized for design that puts people and context first.
Eight years, eight friends, one practice. This is our team, the co-passengers of Compartment S4. What started as a shared dream in a small studio has grown into a collaborative journey of designing and building thoughtfully across Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
This photo from 2017 marks our beginning. With borrowed tools and a shared intuition, we laid our first bricks, both literal and metaphorical. It was the year we said yes to the unknown and started our journey as Compartment S4.
The genesis of Compartment S4 was born from conversations in hostels and studios, centered around a single question: Can architecture be more than just design? This image captures one of those early brainstorming sessions that set our practice in motion.
Our process is hands-on and collaborative. Here, our co-founder Kishan Shah is on-site, translating architectural plans into reality. We believe in being deeply involved in every stage of a project, from the initial sketch to the final construction.
Here, our co-founder Manuni Patel is on-site at the Eat Punjab restaurant, overseeing the installation of the custom lighting. Her attention to detail and hands-on approach ensure that our design vision is executed with precision and care.
We are thrilled to see our Cocoon House project featured in leading design publications like India Art n Design and The Architect's Diary. It is an honor to have our work recognized and shared with a wider audience.
We are honored to be included in the inaugural TAD50 list by The Architect's Diary, which celebrates 50 firms driving meaningful change through design in India. We are grateful to be in the company of so many inspiring practices.
Our adaptive reuse project, Monokuro, was featured for its innovative transformation of a factory canteen into a bright, modern workspace. This recognition highlights our commitment to sustainable and socially significant design.
Our design for the Tres Amigos restaurant was featured in The Architect's Diary. The editor noted how the space "masterfully weaves together cultural richness and design elegance" to create an immersive journey through vibrant Mexican culture.
A proud moment for our team. Our co-founder, Kishan Shah, accepting an award on behalf of the studio. Such recognition fuels our passion for creating meaningful and innovative architectural and interior spaces.
About Our Journey & Accolades
Every project milestone or publication feature is essentially a reflection of the conversations we started in hostels years ago. If you are looking to build a space with us, you are joining a collaborative process where we prioritize your story, the local context, and the long-term character of the design.
From Ahmedabad to India
Compartment S4 began in 2017 as a question: can architecture be more than just design? What started in a small Ahmedabad studio with eight friends has evolved into a practice spanning Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. We operate as co-passengers on a shared journey, where we constantly learn from the sites we visit and the people we meet.
Why Our Recognition Matters
Being featured in platforms like The Architect's Diary or the TAD50 list is an honor, but for us, it validates a specific way of working. We do not just hand over plans. We believe in adaptive reuse, heritage revitalization, and creating spaces that feel grounded in their location. When our work, such as the Cocoon House or the Tres Amigos restaurant, receives recognition, it confirms that our focus on material texture, natural light, and social significance resonates with a wider audience.
Our Process
We keep our methods hands-on. Whether we are sketching initial concepts or overseeing the installation of cane partitions, our approach remains the same. We involve the people who will actually use the space. This is how we ensure that our residential, workspace, and hospitality projects remain functional while retaining a distinct, warm character.
We invite you to reach out to discuss your project. We are always looking for new stories to tell through architecture.
