A look at our favorite pieces and the stories behind them—from limited-run upcycled leather finds to intricate hand-painted Gond art.

This is what we mean by artisan-crafted. Here I am with Dhermaan, one of our master artisans, talking about our Disco Safari leather. We love explaining the process, from the crust leather base to the multiple layers of foiling that create this unique metallic sheen. It’s this passion and transparency that goes into every bag we make.

Our All Woven Bronze Little Namrata is a real showstopper. The metallic bronze leather is handwoven into this intricate pattern, creating a bag that is both a statement piece and a versatile accessory for evening outings. Each strip is cut and woven by hand by a single artisan.

Seeing our bags travel the world brings me so much joy. Here is our beautiful patron Vandhana with her custom Adam bag in Madurai leather, exploring the magnificent sights of Egypt. This is what it’s all about, creating companions for your life's adventures.

The Lace Edit is a true labor of love. This Jordan bag in Lace Oak features delicate hand embroidery, inspired by Sanganeri motifs and crafted with the chain stitch technique from Kashmir. It’s a piece of wearable art, combining two of India's rich craft traditions.

Our Rumi briefcase is for the modern professional who values both style and function. Shown here in a classic Twill Fudge leather, it’s a structured, lightweight laptop bag that’s perfect for work and travel. We were asked for a men's line for years, and Rumi was our first answer.

Wondering what fits inside our Aishwarya bag? We get this question a lot, so I decided to show you. Even our more compact, elegant designs are surprisingly spacious, perfect for carrying your daily essentials without the bulk.

A perfect example of our custom work. This Tiny Mandy features a unique peacock motif in Gond art on our Fluo leather, commissioned by our patron Vandita in the USA. We even added a mini Gabriella bag charm. If you have an idea, I would love to help you create it.

As we celebrate 10 years of Chiaroscuro, I wanted to share a message from my heart. This journey has been a collaboration between our artisans, our team, and you, our wonderful patrons. Thank you for being a part of our story.

About Featured

Each bag you see here is made from start to finish by a single artisan, not a factory line. If you see a style you love but want a different strap, an extra pocket, or a custom initial, just reach out. Because we hunt for limited lots of upcycled leather, we can often adapt these designs to your specific needs if the material is available.

At Chiaroscuro, we don't believe in mass production. Our studio in Ghitorni is where we turn small, unique lots of leather—like our 'Disco Safari' or 'Twill Fudge' hides—into functional companions. This collection is a snapshot of that journey.

Why Our Process is Different

  • Single Artisan Made: When you order, one person handles your bag from the first cut to the final stitch. You aren't just getting an accessory; you are supporting a specific craftsperson's skill.
  • Upcycled Leather: We actively hunt for leftover premium leather. This means textures and grains vary, and once a batch is finished, it is often gone for good. It keeps our designs exclusive and reduces waste.
  • Design Customization: From adding a longer sling to integrating hand-painted Gond art or Zardozi embroidery, we treat every order as a collaboration. If you have a functional requirement, like a specific laptop compartment or a preference for magnetic closures over zippers, we can usually accommodate it.

Understanding Our Craft

We take pride in being honest about what leather can and cannot do. We won't try to hide the natural characteristics of a hide. Whether it is the semi-stiff nature of our metallic prints or the soft drape of our boho shoulder bags, we explain the material so you know exactly how your bag will age. We invite you to visit our studio to see the process firsthand or chat with us about commissioning a piece that fits your life perfectly.
