Advocacy and Education for Street Animals
We are the voice for the voiceless. From legal rights to festival safety, we are here to help Bangalore learn, coexist, and show kindness to our street animals.
Ever wondered how an animal rescue works at CARE? This video explains our process, from the moment a case is reported to how we track each animal with a deposition number, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Remembering Charlie, the dog whose life and legacy inspired our rescue center. This beautiful illustrated video tells his story, a powerful reminder of the impact one animal can have on the world. He lives on in every life we save.
"No, you can't 'donate' your 10-year-old pet." This video shares a heartbreaking but real message we received. Abandoning a senior pet is not a donation; it's abandonment. We advocate for responsible pet parenting for an animal's entire life.
Know their rights! This informative post outlines the legal rights of street dogs in India, from laws against cruelty and relocation to the rules governing Animal Birth Control (ABC). Empowering citizens with this knowledge is key to protecting community animals.
On World Stray Day, we share this simple message: they have the right to stay. This video is a gentle reminder to be kind to the animals who share our streets. A little food, water, and compassion is all they ask for.
Holi is for humans. Leave the animals out of it. This PSA reminds everyone that the colors and noise of Holi can be toxic and stressful for animals. We encourage celebrating safely and keeping our furry friends protected.
Our pre-Deepavali guide to keeping pets and streeties comfortable during the festival. This video provides practical tips, like creating safe spaces and managing walk times, to reduce anxiety caused by loud firecrackers.
We support the message from the Honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka and the KSPCB to celebrate Deepavali responsibly. Using only green crackers within the designated time frame helps protect our environment and the well-being of all animals.
The CARE Reception Committee, dressed in their festive best, wishes everyone a very Happy Deepavali! We invite you to visit the shelter during the holiday weekend to celebrate with us and our wonderful animals.
As the rains lash the city, we share important tips for keeping street animals safe. This video advises on providing temporary shelter, ensuring access to food, and watching out for animals stranded in flooded areas.
About Awareness & Advocacy
When you see an injured animal, our first instinct is to help, but our shelter has a capacity limit of 160 and we often run at 175+. Sometimes, the hardest truth we have to share is 'jaaga illa' (no space). This honesty is our commitment to the animals already in our care, ensuring that every life we do take in gets the medical attention it deserves.
Knowing Their Rights
Many conflicts with community animals stem from a lack of awareness. In India, street dogs have legal protections that every citizen should know. Under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, it is illegal to relocate community dogs. Streets are their home, and they play a vital role in our ecosystem. We focus on educating residential associations and individuals on why sterilization and vaccination are the only effective, legal, and humane ways to manage dog populations.
Living in Harmony
Advocacy isn't just about laws; it's about daily coexistence. We provide practical guides on:
- Festival Safety: During Deepavali and Holi, we share actionable tips to keep both pets and strays safe from noise and toxic colors.
- Monsoon Care: Simple steps like providing temporary shelter in garages or balconies can save a life when the rains lash the city.
- Responsible Pet Parenting: Abandoning a senior pet is not a solution. We work to break the stigma and encourage long-term commitment to animals.
Education Programs
We believe compassion is a skill, not just a feeling. We run workshops for schools, corporate teams, and community groups. These sessions go beyond theory—we explain animal physiology, teach dog bite prevention, and show exactly how rescue operations work at our Yelahanka facility. Whether it’s a team-building CSR day where you help scrub bowls or an empathy workshop for children, our goal is to turn bystanders into advocates.
If you are looking to understand your local street dogs or want to organize an awareness session, reach out. We are always looking for more hands and voices to join the cause.
