Behind the Art: My Restoration and Heritage Process
Step inside my studio to see how discarded fragments become heirlooms. This is where scrap finds a voice through patient restoration and heritage artistry.
This is me in my studio, holding scraps of fabric that will be upcycled into an improv quilt. For me, there is great satisfaction in creating beautiful things from what would otherwise be waste.

About Behind the Art
The magic here is rarely clean or instant. It begins on my workbench with the deliberate, often dusty process of stripping back old varnish, sanding down weathered wood, and sorting through salvaged textiles. When you start a commission, you are watching a 'scrap to story' transformation where the initial mess of restoration slowly crystallizes into a refined, hand-painted heirloom.
My Process: From Junk to Joy
People often ask how I know what to keep. It comes from training my eye to look past the surface of 'junk.' Whether it is an old camphor panel from a demolished home or discarded clock frames, my studio is a space for giving these objects a second life.
Restoration is never just about fixing damage. It is about honoring the history of an object. I start by deep cleaning and structurally securing the wood. Once the base is sound, the storytelling begins. I might layer digital archival prints with fine-line hand painting inspired by Pattachitra or Kalamkari techniques.
Sustainability and Heritage
My practice is a protest against disposable culture. I work with vintage textiles—Kutch embroidery, Balinese Ikat, or remnants of Banarasi silk—because these fabrics carry the energy of their previous lives. Integrating these into a piece of furniture or wall art creates a dialogue between materials.
