Modular Pichwai Wall Art
Traditional Pichwai art reimagined through modular wooden blocks. Stack them, arrange them, and bring a piece of heritage into your space, exactly how you want it.
A set of three modular Pichwai blocks, designed to be stacked vertically. This format allows for a flexible and modern display of traditional art.
The central block of the set, featuring a classic depiction of Shrinathji against a dark background, surrounded by palm trees and lotus flowers.
Another view of the Shrinathji block, showing its deep, shadow-box style construction and hand-painted border.
The bottom block of the set, showing gopis in a lush grove. The red and white striped border adds a playful, contemporary touch.
The top block, featuring a pattern of cows against a vibrant red background, a classic motif in Pichwai art that symbolizes devotion.
An angled view of two of the blocks, showing how the different patterns and color schemes are designed to complement each other.
A side view of the three blocks, highlighting the different hand-painted patterns on each frame. Every surface is a canvas.
About Modular Pichwai Wall Art
Each block is crafted from reclaimed teak and treated as a distinct canvas. Because I combine archival digital prints with hand-painted borders, you aren't just buying a painting; you're building a flexible installation that can grow or shift with your wall space.
This modular format was born out of a practical challenge: traditional Pichwai paintings are often massive, heavy, and difficult to hang in modern, smaller apartment spaces. By deconstructing the art into individual, manageable wooden blocks, I have made it possible to enjoy this rich heritage in a way that fits your wall, not the other way around.
The process starts with sourcing reclaimed teak—wood that already carries a history of its own. I clean and treat the base, preparing it for a fusion of techniques. I use archival digital prints as the base composition—ensuring the detail and proportions remain faithful to classic Pichwai traditions—and then apply hand-painted borders to every frame. The result is a tactile, layered piece of art that feels warm, grounded, and intensely personal.
Because each block is independent, you can play with the layout. Stack them vertically for a slim pillar effect, arrange them in a grid for a feature wall, or scatter them across a shelf. It is an interactive way to live with art, giving you the freedom to change your display whenever you feel like refreshing your space. Whether you are looking for specific themes like Shrinathji, Gopis, or classic lotus motifs, we can discuss a set that reflects the stories you want to surround yourself with.
