About this collection
Getting the fit right for silk fabrics is crucial because they have zero stretch. I personally guide you through neckline choices—whether you want a deep back with dori or a structured high neck—to ensure your blouse doesn't just look good on a hanger but sits perfectly on your shoulders throughout a long wedding day.
When designing for a Kanchipuram or heavy silk saree, the blouse is rarely just an accessory. It is the structural support for the entire ensemble. Because authentic silk is a rigid fabric, I prioritize creating a structured silhouette using high-quality padding and canvas reinforcement. This ensures that even with heavy Aari or Zardosi work, the blouse retains its shape without sagging or pulling at the seams.
My Design Process
-
Consultation: We start by looking at your saree. I analyze the zari work and borders to decide where to place the embroidery. If the saree has a heavy border, we might opt for a minimalist neckline to let the fabric shine.
-
Embroidery Selection: Whether you prefer traditional temple motifs, peacock designs, or modern geometric thread work, I map this out to complement the saree’s weave rather than clash with it.
-
The Final Fit: I focus heavily on the 'internal' finish—secure hook-eye closures, comfortable lining that doesn't irritate the skin, and precise darts. A well-fitted blouse should feel like a second skin, allowing you to move comfortably, whether you are managing a heavy bridal drape or attending a family reception.
Why Silk Requires Special Attention
Many clients come to me after struggling with blouses that feel tight or restrict movement. Silk does not yield, so we must be precise with our measurements. My team and I take extra care with the armholes and bust structure to give you full range of motion. If you have an heirloom Kanchipuram saree that needs a modern update, I also specialize in repurposing those materials, carefully restoring the zari while constructing a contemporary, comfortable fit.
