For interests like gymming or golf, I typically suggest a mix: hand-modeled 3D figurines for your gear—like a dumbbell or a golf bag—paired with smooth buttercream for the base. This keeps the cake easy to cut and delicious to eat while still capturing the exact aesthetic of your passion.
When I design a cake around a hobby or sport, my goal is to make it feel personal, not just a generic store-bought theme. Whether you are celebrating a 6-year-old’s cricket match or a 60th birthday with a golf theme, the process is about identifying the specific elements that define that interest.
My approach varies based on what you need:
- 2D Design: For logos, team crests (like Manchester United), or artistic references, I use high-quality edible prints on a buttercream or ganache base. This is a clean, modern look that keeps the focus on the vibrant graphics.
- 3D Hand-Sculpting: If you want a figurine of a person in action—like a runner with their medal or an artist at their easel—I hand-model these using a mix of fondant and modeling chocolate. These are the showstoppers that really tell a story.
Everything is prepared in my Sushant Lok kitchen. Because I avoid heavy, thick fondant coverings, the cake stays soft and fresh.
