About Join Our Community of Changemakers
You don't need a background in psychology or theater to start. Most of our volunteers are students or working professionals who commit to just a few hours a week. We provide the training on our 'S.T.O.R.Y. method' and match you with a shelter home or community space near your locality. You bring the consistency and heart; we provide the books, the training, and the support to ensure you succeed.
How Our Volunteer Program Works
We do not just ask you to show up. We build a support system so you feel prepared before your first story session. Our volunteers are the backbone of our Imagination Havens.
The Roles We Need:
- Storytellers: If you can bring a book to life with your voice and energy, this is for you. You will lead weekly sessions, using our proven S.T.O.R.Y. method to help children build resilience and hope.
- Research Assistants: If you have an interest in social impact data, this role involves assessing the psychological progress of our programs. It is perfect for psychology students seeking hands-on experience.
- Project Leaders: For those ready to take on more responsibility, you will coordinate volunteer cohorts and manage library operations at a specific site.
What You Get Out Of It
Beyond the impact you make, this is a space for your own growth. You will gain access to workshops on trauma-informed care and storytelling techniques. You join a team that values your time; our team meetings are regular, productive, and filled with conversation.
We operate across Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. Whether you are a college student or a working professional, if you have a few hours a week to give, we have a place for you to make a tangible difference in a child's life.
Bookwallah
I started Bookwallah after realizing that stories were my own escape hatch as a child. Today, we need people who are ready to show up consistently to help kids dream again. If you can dedicate a few hours a week to lead a session, you are exactly the person we are looking for.
