Seena Jacob founded Bookwallah with a simple belief: stories can heal. Discover how a personal journey through childhood trauma sparked a movement that now brings magic to children across India.

A glimpse into where it all began. An old film that shows the unchanging heart of Bookwallah: bringing healing, hope, and imagination to children.

Our founder, Seena Jacob, reads "A Grand Swayamvara" to children in Pune. This visit was a beautiful reminder of why we exist: to create a nurturing world of belonging and possibility.

Seena Jacob as a keynote speaker at MahaCollab 2025, sharing the profound impact of stories on children who have experienced trauma.

A birthday tribute to our founder, Seena. Your tireless dedication has built more than libraries; you've created lifelines for young souls.

About Our Founder's Journey & Vision

When I walked away from the corporate world fifteen years ago, I didn't have a playbook. I only had the memory of how books became my escape hatch during a childhood that felt impossible. That’s the seed of everything we do today. If you’re considering joining us—whether as a volunteer in Mumbai or a library sponsor—you aren't just filling a role. You are helping us create a safe space where children learn to rewrite their own endings.

How We Built a Haven for Hope

Bookwallah didn't start in a boardroom; it started with a question: can fairy tales truly save a life? Fifteen years ago, I realized that the same stories that offered me solace during my own difficult childhood could serve as a powerful tool for children facing trauma today. We moved from simply donating books to creating active 'Imagination Havens'—spaces designed for emotional safety and creative expression.

The S.T.O.R.Y. Method

We don't just read books. We use our proprietary S.T.O.R.Y. method, a trauma-informed approach that allows children to project their experiences onto characters, navigate complex emotions, and build resilience without ever feeling overwhelmed. Our volunteers—our 'Changemakers'—are trained to facilitate this process, ensuring that every session is not just fun, but therapeutic.

Where We Are Now

What began as a personal mission has grown into a community. We are currently active in Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. Whether you are a student looking for a meaningful internship, a professional wanting to volunteer in your city, or an organization interested in sponsoring a library project, your contribution helps us sustain these safe spaces.

We are always looking for people who understand that healing takes time and patience. If our mission resonates with your own values, let's talk about how you can contribute your time or resources to keep the stories moving forward.

I am Seena Jacob, and I believe stories are more than just entertainment—they are a lifeline. After years in the corporate grind, I started Bookwallah to share the healing power of fairy tales with children who have lived through the unthinkable.
