Music is my breath, and there is nothing quite like sharing it in a quiet, intimate space. My baithaki sessions are designed for those moments when you want to connect deeply with the beauty of a Thumri or a timeless Ghazal, stripped back to its pure, acoustic essence.

A serene moment from a 'baithaki' style performance, accompanied by a talented musician on the sarangi. The simplicity of this setup allows the nuances of the music to shine.

Deep in meditation with my tanpura, finding the soul of the raga before a performance. This instrument is my constant companion in my musical journey.

A beautiful musical evening celebrating the birthday of Anup Jalota ji. Performing a thumri in such a warm and personal setting, surrounded by friends and fellow musicians, is a true blessing.

About Intimate 'Baithaki' Musicales

For these intimate gatherings, I perform in the traditional baithak style, usually seated on the floor or low stools to match the room's energy. This format is intentionally acoustic, relying on the natural resonance of the venue rather than heavy amplification. You will have a three-piece ensemble, typically consisting of tabla, harmonium, and a drone, which creates the perfect environment for me to take song requests, explain the meaning behind the Urdu and Hindi poetry, and truly connect with every guest in the room.

A baithaki is not just a performance; it is a conversation through music. Unlike a large-scale concert where I am separated by a stage, these sessions bring me face-to-face with my audience, allowing for a shared experience of emotion, or 'bhaav'.

What to Expect

  • Authentic Sound: We keep the setup minimal. Because it is acoustic, we require a quiet space where the nuances of the Benaras Gharana Thumri or a Ghazal can be heard clearly.
  • Interactive Engagement: I love explaining the 'Sher-o-Shayari' (poetry) between songs. It bridges the gap for listeners who may not be familiar with the language, making the music more accessible and meaningful.
  • Spontaneous Requests: This format is flexible. If there is a particular song you or your guests would like to hear, I can often weave it into the set, provided it fits the evening's flow.

Ideal For

These sessions are perfect for private birthday celebrations, intimate anniversary dinners, or sophisticated corporate gatherings where the goal is to create a calm, soulful atmosphere rather than high-energy entertainment. Whether it is an evening of Jagjit Singh style Ghazals or soulful folk-inspired numbers, the focus remains on quality and deep listening.

If you are planning an event, please remember that we require a 45-minute sound check before your guests arrive to ensure the room's acoustics are balanced. This ensures that the only thing your guests focus on is the music.
