My Connection to the Studio
The studio is where I feel the most alive. It's not just about singing into a mic, it's about getting lost in a note, forgetting the outside world, and just being present. I get a kick out of every chance to lend my voice, whether it’s for a huge film or a small indie song.
What I Bring: Indian Classical & More
My training is deep in Indian classical music, especially Thumri and Ghazal. Years of learning from gharana traditions and performing have shaped my style - a mix of classic grace and my own twist. I’m drawn to emotional studio performance, where every little nuance matters.
Playback & Projects
I’ve sung for films and web series, being the voice behind characters. One web series about courtesans was a highlight, recording Thumri tracks that got a lot of love. In Bengali cinema, working with celebrated directors and composers to create original Thumri songs has pushed me as a playback singer for films.
Originals & Independent Songs
Collaborating on new music is special for me. Giving life to a fresh Ghazal or a song about women’s empowerment, like 'Humein dekhni hai Azaadi', hits close to home. I believe in 'Amra Nari, Amra Shob Pari' (We are women, we can do anything).
Jingles & Light Moments
It’s not all serious - I also enjoy recording for radio jingles, especially festive ones. Singing for Durga Puja promos was pure khushi (joy).

Hi, I’m Barnali. Music’s more than work for me – it’s my breath, my peace, my everything. Singing, especially for Heeramandi, feels like touching something divine. Got the Devi award, felt proud, you know. I really believe in Nari Shakti. Like I say, 'Amra Nari, Amra Shob Pari' (we women can do anything). My daughter, my sarees, my roots – all part of my story. Grateful for every musical evening. Dugga Dugga.
