Tango isn't about memorizing steps; it is a conversation between two people. Discover how we break down the true nature of leading and following.

What does it mean to be a leader or a follower in Tango? A leader commands respect and invites, while a follower is an active, self-aware partner. It's a partnership of equals.

About My Philosophy: It's More Than Just Steps

In my sessions, I stop treating Tango like a set of fixed choreographies to memorize. I focus on the TangoShastra method, where we treat every movement as a conversation. Whether you are leading or following, you are actively participating in the dance rather than just executing steps. I encourage everyone to learn both roles, because the best way to understand how to move with someone is to know exactly what they are feeling on the other side.

The Conversation

Tango is often misunderstood as a performance where the leader dictates the path and the follower just complies. That is a monologue, and it kills the connection. True Argentine Tango happens when the leader invites movement and the follower responds with intent. It is an active partnership, not a command performance.

Why Learn Both Roles?

I make sure all my students spend time in both roles. If you only ever learn to follow, you might miss the nuance of how an invitation is sent. If you only lead, you might become a bully on the floor. By learning both, you develop a sense of rhythm and empathy that makes your dance, and your social interactions, much richer.

Our Methodology

My teaching relies on the TangoShastra method. It is a systematic, scientific breakdown of movement. We look at your biomechanics, your axis, and how you distribute weight. We do not just feel the music; we analyze the rhythm, from the structure of the beat to the pauses in between. It takes the guesswork out of learning.

Who This Is For

You do not need a partner. You do not need fancy shoes. You need curiosity. Whether you are a total beginner or an experienced dancer looking to refine your technique, my sessions are designed to meet you exactly where you are. We work on the foundation so you can build your own style.
